We have always liked camping here. Several years ago they redid the campground. Some good, some not so good. It seems that all sites are paved. They redid the fire rings also. ||We think they seemed to go for tent sites over trailer sites. Several sites we have had in the years past are now almost all tent sites. Several (a lot) have a large incline before the level out. For trailers and motorhomes that is not acceptable. You have to really got to know the site before you reserve. ||They have several handicap sites. That is good but we were informed that if we reserved one of those sites within the required 6 months period, and then a handicapped person arrived that day that we would have to give up our site. No problem with the handicap getting a break but if I have to go by the rules of 6 months, they should have to also. There could be a few days leeway. ||Some company made a lot of money off the fire rings they have in each site. They look good but are not. First year they had small rocks in bottom. That would make it hard to clean. They have a grill that swings out of the way, or back over the fire. You can't raise or lower it. One height. If the pit has been cleaned, it could be more than a foot from the coals. Who thought of that?? The grates are now warping. Maybe a 1 1/2 inch bow. The sides are about 1 1/2 foot above ground level. The old fire pits, they were about 1 foot or less above ground. They had a grill that could be moved up or down depending on the heat you wanted from your fire. ||Campground hosts are still friendly. Forest service personal do not drive around like in the past.||We will camp here in the future but it is...
Read moreSite 38 was where we stayed, it is a hike in site (about 150 feet). But hiking to the site was nothing more than 75 steps on a path. We LOVED our site, we would book it again for sure. Our view of the lake was the best in the entire campground (imho). The only downside was people used it as a path to the lake, and those who were not taught better walked through our campsite instead of around. The campground was clean, the bathrooms were flush toilets with a running water sink, and they sold firewood at the site. The lake was absolutely beautiful, very windy so lots of sailboat races going on, but that meant very few motor boats, so it was quiet. We fished right by our campsite and caught a few rainbow trout. We decided to try to go back every year if possible. The other campsite we saw that looked great was 68, right by a very nice sunning rock with access to water...
Read moreWe recently completed our first stay at Rancheria Campground. Great experience overall. The campground has potable water (fresh from a spring), and a mix of vault and flush toilets, both of which are very well maintained. No showers, but a camp shower solves that issue easily. Bears do visit nightly looking for unlocked and/or overfilled trash receptacles. So campers, do your duty. Sites are on the small side. We had two double sites, and they were barely bigger (if at all) than the single sites.
Camp hosts Vicki and Shane were awesome! They worked so hard to keep the restrooms clean, the campers checked in, and the campground quiet and orderly. They truly made our first visit a motivating reason to return. Vista Recreation (managers of the campground), please make sure you bring this couple...
