When we first arrived we went to the water. There was garbage everywhere...All over the ground, the beach. Then I made the mistake of going in the restroom near the water. š© garbage and urine covered the floors. One of the sinks was plugged up and overflowing with dark brown water. I donāt even want to know what the dark brown was. Itās stunk to high heaven and I ran out without using it and gagging.
The campground was not as dirty, except the bathroom ( yes one for the whole campgrounds). And I spent a good part of our visit picking up trash.
The showers: When we made the reservation I asked if they had nice showers and they said āyesā. They didnāt say they have one shower to the whole campground that we were in. I went to shower the next morning and half the campground was going poop during my experience in the filthy bathroom with some broken doors and toilets). There is absolutely no windows for ventilation. But thatās not all .. itās $.50 for 2 1/2 minutes of water. Good thing I had $20 worth of quarters, ..because it takes over a minute to get the water adjusted so you can step in. I kept adding quarters.. but thatās a joke because as soon as you start soaping up someone flushes the toilet or turns on the sink water and you fry with scalding hot water... that is a problem. Then you have to step out of the shower and wait for it to be normal and it goes cold because you need to add more quarters. So you adjust the water to get back in again... someone flushes the toilet again (constantly). This went on for 14.50 Worth of quarters for about a five minutes worth of shower water that took almost an hour and I didnāt even get to wash completely and left with soap on my feet. I continuously had to shout out, ā please tell me before you flush the toilet because it burns meā! The next day I drove down the road and begged another campground please let me use their nice shower and she couldnāt . I offered to pay for a cabin just to use their shower , but they were booked solid and couldnāt do that. So I came back and used about $20 worth of quarters and went through this same scenario for one shower that was horrible and I got scalded several times. I told the blonde young girl that was working in the office . She just laughed at me and told me, ā this is camping not glamping. Not to mention .. I couldnāt find one of my gold earrings. I had to lift this wood grate that they have down to step on before you step in the shower ... oh my gosh... I almost vomited. Between the feces smells and the filth and mold ... it was disgusting. Iād rather die than go back there. Iāve stayed at many campgrounds that have amazing facilities, where you feel safe and treated with respect. This was disgusting. The people were scary there . There was dog poop all over including the middle of the road. I talked to a few of the nice people there that were also visiting . I donāt think very many people were happy With this place.
There was one very nice employee that seemed to actually care about the place and was kind and professional. I forgot her name, but sheās middle aged with shorter blonde hair. Really polite! It was obvious everybody else was just there for the paycheck. Very rude people work there. I would love to see them eventually change the park to reassemble the Skokomish elders standards. Theyāre sitting on a gold mine there . And I would love to see someplace in that area...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy kids (nix the daughter in Cali) took me to Lake Cushman for Mother's Day. We went there last year as well. Last year, they did not have a handicapped accessible bathroom. The manager of the place came up to me personally and said it would be taken care of. Today, I needed to go to the bathroom - it's a half hour drive up the mountain and we were there all day, so, yeah, Momma had to go - and it was not accessible. My oldest said there was one around the corner. After a half hour hike to that bathroom, which was near the handicapped camp site, not only was it not accessible, but neither was the shower that was there. So, I walked (rolled, of course, work with me here), to the Ranger Station and gave them a piece of my mind-in-a-nice-but-you know-I was-ticked kind of way. They agreed with me that, yes, it was nice of the park to give handicapped people spots to park. I mentioned that even though I am white they need to be aware that some of their elders have handicaps too and they agreed that no, they don't want their revered elders from their tribe with handicaps to come to the park for a camping trip and NOT pee the whole time they are there and yes they agreed that isn't the message they want to send and that handicapped people are not second class (or lower, citizens) who have to get out of their chairs and crawl to the toilet just to pee. I was told that they had the money to make the bathrooms accessible, but they used it all up on other features of the park before they got to the handicapped necessities and it will be October before they get more money. AND I had to pay $10 to park in their handicapped accessible spot to get to see the beauty that is Lake Cushman. BUT, not everyone has to pay! If you know the person at the Ranger Station, you get in free!! I enjoyed my time with my children and their friends who came to celebrate Mother's Day. And yes, the Powers-That-Be are going to be hearing from me in a more official way. And the newspapers - like The New...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur family stayed here for two nights in July and loved it! It's a really ideal spot for kids for so many reasons - beautiful sites close to the water and general store; walking distance to the lake where they have single and double kayak and I think stand-up paddleboard rentals; and a public "beach" at Lake Cushman with seating, picnic tables, tons of shade. The campsite is nicely developed with clean bathrooms and roomy sites. ||||Outside of the amenities at Skokomish Park, the staffers there are all friendly and over the top helpful. In two days we interacted with multiple staffers and all were beyond helpful and nice, including (1) my daughter dropping her hot chocolate after buying it at the general store and staff insisting she replace it for free and (2) kayak staff being so nice and accommodating despite us obviously being their very last rental of the day (and probably standing between them and the end of the workday). However, the most over the top service we got was when our truck battery died and we went up to the general store to get cell service to call for a tow; when staff heard the issue, they insisted on jumping our truck that day, and when it died again overnight, they again insisted on jumping it rather than us calling AAA. The young couple that helped both times even refused a cash tip, saying they couldn't take it and were happy to help, and made us feel like it was sincerely no big deal for them to assist.||||Lake Cushman is beautiful and this property was the perfect way to experience it. ...
