I must preface this by saying whatever I manage to communicate in this review is going to be woefully insufficient to capture just how wonderful this Inn is to stay at, and how gracious, welcoming, helpful and accommodating Miriam and Will are as hosts. My daughter and I stayed a wonderful 3 nights, and wished we never had to leave! ||The Inn itself is beautiful inside and out! The rooms are perfectly appointed, with intriguing details of design and decor for those who care to notice, and unbelievably comfortable with every little need thought of; from toiletries in the bathroom, to charging stations by the bed, glasses for drinks, and delicious Scottish tablet (the most amazing “fudge” you will ever have the pleasure of sampling) under a little glass dome as a treat in your room. Downstairs there is a sitting room to relax in with plenty of interesting local material to read and help plan your days, as well as the library upstairs with a great selection of books. There is also a fridge in the sitting room with drinks in it, tea and coffee making accoutrements, a water cooler and ice, and a permanent plateful of homemade brownies. If you are a dog person (which we are) there is also the adorable and very soft Hamish to enjoy a cuddle with. He is an absolute sweetie!||Breakfast is the most wonderful experience, you will end up feeling totally spoiled, and also left not needing to eat again until dinner! Miriam is so gracious in accommodating your breakfast time for your schedule that day, which is not common practice in all Inns/B&Bs, and we were very grateful we were able to have breakfast when it fit with our plans. There was a different hot breakfast offered each day, including a perfectly cooked Eggs Benedict with sausage and asparagus, the most sublime quiche served with delicious bacon, and delectable shakshuka on our last morning. As well as the cooked breakfast there is a cold buffet of incredible fresh home cooked pastries, custards and other delicious offerings. These included granola, fruit bowls, peach pastries, coconut orange muffins, citrus upside down muffins, fig date and pecan bars, vanilla custard with rhubarb compote, a superb “set” custard with cherries in it (I wish I could remember the name, it was french and truly wonderful!), and more I’m sorry to say I’ve forgotten the names of. What I can say, is they were all absolutely delicious, and went spectacularly with the breakfast tea, coffee and juices. And with all these wonderful and tasty creations Miriam handled all allergies and intolerances masterfully, including for a Celiac, which is not an easy task!||Miriam and Will are wonderfully warm, welcoming hosts, and extremely helpful when needing suggestions for activities, restaurants, and more. They are naturally very knowledgeable about all the history of the area and more broadly the history of the United States and how the area fits into that. Their suggestions for dinner, antiquing and other shopping were also spot on, and we had a really wonderful time in the area. ||Our only regret is that we...

Read more“Bloody fantastic!” These are the first words that come to my mind when trying to find the words to describe the experience of our stay at The Inn at Antietam. My wife and I were gifted a 2-night stay from some friends and we decided to spend our 16th Anniversary at the Inn and it will not be the last time we visit.
Have you ever met someone and felt like there’s an instant connection? You relate and understand one another from the second you start speaking. You’re so comfortable that you feel like you’ve known them forever?
That’s exactly how the hosts, Will and Miriam, make you feel from the second you arrive, until you (unfortunately) have to leave. And I do mean unfortunate. While their pup - Hamish - can’t speak, he also makes you feel equally apart of their extended family with a friendly greeting in the morning at breakfast and as you come and go throughout your stay.
The Inn itself is on an absolutely beautiful (and well kept) piece of property. You can honestly spend a day touring the Inn itself. Every item in the house has a “bloody good” story behind it and I encourage you to ask Miriam and Will about them as they’re more than willing to share their experiences. They’re both a wealth of knowledge, well traveled, and excellent resources for what to see and do during your visit.
Besides the hosts (and Hamish), the next best thing about the Inn is - hands down - the breakfast. As many other reviewers have mentioned, you will not leave out of there in the morning hungry. Fresh, made from scratch pastries, muffins, and breads to egg quiche’s with perfectly cooked bacon and sausage they (Miriam and Will) don’t cheat you out of a great start to the day. I don’t know how often Miriam makes the Chocolate Banana muffins and Apricot bombs, but they are absolutely delicious and hope they’re on the menu when we visit again!
As for things to do, literally a stone’s throw away from the Inn is the Antietam National Cemetery. It’s an amazing piece of history and a must see along with the Antietam National Battlefield during your stay. Highly recommend Shepherdstown, WV as a great spot for dinner. I’d say lunch as well, but after the breakfast you have at the Inn, you won’t need or want to eat again until dinner anyway.
If you’re planning a visit to Harpers Ferry, Shepherstown, Sharpsburg, Boonsboro, or any of the surrounding area’s - I promise you will not be disappointed with a stay at the Inn at Antietam.
With that said, if we have trouble making a reservation on our next visit then you should ignore everything I mentioned above and find somewhere else to...
