I had stayed at this campground long term for over 2 years, some of the reviews have merit but most of them I really can't see being valid. If you read all of the campground rules and regulations and follow them there should be no problems.
Most of the sites are level (yes some are not but it's a campground not a Wal-Mart parking lot), you should always be prepared with leveling blocks and wheel chocks etc.
As for the pool it was great I used it all summer long, the only time i was asked to vacate was when a bad storm rolled in. I'm not sure about a hot tub that someone mentioned I'm yet to find it , I hear they had one long long time ago.. before the wind before the snow... maybe someone confused a ditch with water in it for a hot tub ( this will happen when you have to many giggly pops in front of a campfire).
The campground has a nice new park for kids to play in with a bouncy pillow and equipment . On hot weekends they bring out a slip and slide and usually have other activities for kids to do.
The big screen movie is always nice on saturday night in the park. They are very dog friendly as long as you clean up after them and keep them on a leash, they even have a fenced in dog park with activities for active dogs.
If you need some groceries and want to pay double for convenience then shop at the store on site ( this is standard for all campgrounds). If you want to save money go to the entrance of the campground, Turn right Go 0.1 miles and look on your right there is a store called Dollar General (Who knew a place like this existed!! ),You could even walk there if you wanted to , its right behind the main office and up a small hill ( follow the beaten path).
There is also a kroger and wal-mart just over the i65 if you need speciality items less than 2 miles away. I will admit that from time to time you will hear a UPS plane fly over head but when you have your ac running or furnace (depending on weather) you can't hear anything but that, if you listen carefully sometimes you can hear your neighbor's singing to music on the radio (highly entertaining) .
Nightly pricing is a bit much but if you join the koa club program you can save money while you camp or have served your country and get a Vets discount.
My only major gripe about the campground is the price of propane, @$5 a gallon which works out to just about $1/pound you will not like the final bill when you fill up 2- 30lb tanks, I guess this is due to a small tank and inconvenience to delivery drivers to fill up.
If your willing to drive 15 minutes, go to the TSC on dixie highway , they charge per gallon and it has been $2.09/gallon for the last few months ( claimed to be cheapest in ky). There is also a kroger right next door so get your grocery at the same time.
The maintenance staff and front office are very friendly ( watch out for sue she's a fire cracker) , they are all prompt and helpful Glen the manager had always greeted me with a smile.
Over all I am glad that I have chosen this as my campground. I looked at many campgrounds near by and none of them even come close.
If you want a site That's just gravel and no personality check out grandma's at exit 116 ,oddly enough NO kids allowed! What kind of grandma doesn't like kids?
Louisville south has everything I need and if there is a problem they take care of it by priority. I have no use for any of the facilities on site, if the bathrooms are dirty or a dirty object left behind it was the person using the facility before you! They have always been clean if I've been out for a walk and stopped in for a quick pit stop.
Winter time can be tricky in a camper or RV, the winter of 2017/2018 has been very cold and pipes will freeze , be patient and be prepared with heated hoses and skirting if your staying long term. Common sense really isn't that common these days... ...
Read moreUpon arrival, the grass looked upkept. I realize it is a campground, but when grass it grown up by the grills and water spickets nearly a foot, I'd say someone needs a refresher course in lawn care. We stayed in a camping cabin; it is what it is. No frills, but clean I suppose. Building where the hot tub is located could use some repairs. Bathroom were clean, good hot water on the showers. Family did like the pool and enjoyed the jumping pillow. I had limited interaction with the staff, but they seemed pleasant. Our problems came at night when the raccoons started their activities. Now, our cabin was across from a dumpster, so the 1st night, we weren't surprised when we heard one trying to find food. The 2nd night, well, that was a whole different story: Family and friends (maybe 6 of us total) had gathered at our cabin (#3) where we had dinner and started a fire. About 9pm, we noticed a raccoon across the street. Then another one on the left side of our cabin. Before we knew it, there was at least 7 raccoons of all sizes zeroing in on the porch and picnic table. They were not scared of us or the well lit area we had set up. One came within 8ft of us. We had already put the food back inside the cabin, threw away all garbage and had nothing out for them to "smell". So After trying to "shew" them off for nearly 2 hours, we all dispersed and my husband and I went inside. He was really nervous and worried they could get inside since we had already seen them open a cooler lid while we are standing there watching them. My husband then noticed a piece of plywood had been replaced on the floor under the bunk bed and he was then convinced something had gotten inside before. I was a nervous wreck and voted to pack up and head home. There was no way that we could sleep. At that time, we heard the raccoons again. My husband open the curtains and 2 of them were sitting on the picnic table and there were 3 more on the porch scratching at the screen door. Even after he flipped the lights back on and made noise, they were not scared and were hesitant to leave. We then had to get out of there. We walked outside (with an umbrella and a broom), pulled our car close with lights on and loaded up in 10 minutes. I don't think I have ever packed my car so fast in my life. Our friends helped us load up and one saw another raccoon trying to climb in the back of my SUV when my hatch door was open. We left the keys with friends and they returned when they checked out the next day. When staff was informed of our nightmare and early departure, they said management would be calling me. To date, I have heard from no one. Now don't get me wrong, I may be a city girl but I understand the concept of camping. There is going to be wild animals, but this was simply ridiculous. We had just camped at a KOA in Cave City 2 weeks prior and didn't see 1 raccoon., let...
Read moreI checked in after the office closed around 8:30 pm and took a pull through site which was gravel and could not have housed my car if I had been towing it. I have three slides and only opened the bedroom. I hooked up electricity only. The site was unlevel and I had difficulty with my automatic leveler properly leveling my RV because the site was so unlevel. In the morning I realized if I had opened the other 2 slide outs, I would have hit the neighbors picnic table because the campsite was so narrow. There was no vegetation on the site, and was in full sun. The campsites are extremely close together throughout the entire campground with no privacy between sites. I was shocked how they crammed in so many campsites. ||||At 8:30 am I unhooked and prepared to leave the campground after being there 12 hours. I went up to the office and was told the cost was $110.00 for the night. I said WHAT? I am 80 years old and have been camping since I was 6 weeks old. I have NEVER payed that much for a campsite and certainly not for an overnight stay only using their electricity. I told them I had a KOA membership so got a 10% discount, so I paid $100.00. I questioned the cost and staff told me it was their high season and did other KOA's have the same amenities? The night before I had stayed in a lovely KOA campground with lots of trees, large beautiful campsites and great amenities and it was $54.00. It was a very fair price for the campsite and the stay was very helpful and welcoming. ||||The staff at the Louisville South KOA campground told me I could use the state parks if I wanted lower priced campsites. I was very offended by this as I was traveling and just needed a campground immediately off the Interstate. State parks are usually a long drive off the interstate. ||||In all I am still in shock that this KOA campground thinks they are the perfect place to camp and feel they can charge a high price for what they think they have, which is nothing but a bunch of activities in a VERY CROWDED campground. Maybe families want to pay that price to keep their kids entertained and not have to do anything. Personally, when our children were growing up, state and natl. parks were our choice for camping because the sites were large and usually very private, there were lots of family activities available to enjoy nature and the special amenities of the state or natl park. The price was usually under $20.00. ||||I am sorry campgrounds like this are popping up and charging outrageous fees and...
