This is an odd review, since it is for a unique event that caused a pricing issue. (I am marking this review as “Average” because I don't want their normal reviews to be biased based on my unique situation.) I believe the managers of Desert Inn in Shoshoni made a reservations mistake with me. That happens, but the problem was in their not honoring what they agreed to afterwards. I cannot speak to the quality of the rooms or on-site services since I was not able to stay there.||||August 21st is the day of the total solar eclipse of 2017, and every accommodation along the line of the eclipse is booked solid with any remaining rooms priced, well, astronomically to take advantage of the influx of visitors. I understand that and I'm prepared to camp out on my own, but thought I'd research some of the smaller towns.||||I called the Desert Inn on June 5, inquiring for August 21, the night after the eclipse. The woman I spoke to said she did have an available room (#121) at a rate of $74.32, which I happily and immediately took. I asked for an email confirmation, which I received moments later from Cody, the apparent manager.||||Three days later, he sent an email asking if I was coming for the eclipse. I explained I was not going to be in Shoshoni for it, but would be coming through that night on my way west. Cody wrote that his boss had instructed them that rooms on my date were, in his words: “reserved for Eclipse goers. So instead of making your room VERY expensive for absolutely no reason since you won't be here for the actual Eclipse, is there a way you can move the reservation to the night of the 22nd?”||There are no available rooms anywhere else for that night anywhere in central or eastern Wyoming. The few near Jackson Hole that are, are well over $1,000 per night.||I responded that, “A price hike now, after the fact, is taking advantage and not in good faith for the agreement we had.” I said I would still take the room at the agreed price, but not otherwise, and asked for his response.||||Five days after my initial reservation, and after prodding for an answer from them, Cody emailed today that he would not be able to rent me a room for that night.||||I understand their desire to impose “eclipse prices” to take as much advantage as possible of the rare event, and I do believe they made an honest mistake in offering me that lower price. That is not my mistake, but theirs. They decided not to honor the agreed price after the reservation was taken. Take that as you will, but it was aggravating to find a room for that night only to have it yanked out from under me nearly a week later so they can hike their price up as Cody said “for...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE! We are VERY tolerant with little motels. We just need a clean bed & shower. This was bad! Before making the reservation, I read all of the reviews, and I made the reservation anyway because I like to support roadside motels, and sometimes they get a bad rap. Upon arriving, it was very dark, less than half the outside lights were on. While checking in, I was told the internet was out, and that also meant no tv, I was disappointed. We are on a huge road trip and tenting most nights and I was looking forward to relaxing and watching some tv, but really, we just needed to sleep and shower. Arriving at our room, it was so fun to see the colored tile in the bathroom, reminiscent of the time of the building. I was ready to look past the dead bug behind the toilet and the ants crawling on the floor. Then I noticed the shower curtain was torn and tied, I thought, "I'll just fix it up a little and it will be fine" when I let it down from where it was pinned up I found it to be ripped in three pieces. I started the water for a shower and it never got warm! I went to the office, rang the bell, and waited. When I told Kristen, the manager, about the shower curtain she says "yeah, they dont really give me the supplies I need, but its on the list" She hands me a key to another room, I went and ran water for over 5 minutes and it never got even a bit warm. I told Kristen and she said she didn't even know where the hot water tank was but would look into it. The next morning, she came and told us the gas was out, so there would be no hot water. I requested a refund at that point and she said she would, she would just need to have her boss do it. When we went to turn in the key she told us we had to call to request the refund. We have now called and left messages multiple times with no answers. We will NEVER stay at any OYO properties...
Read moreI had a confirmed reservation with The Desert Inn on 7/9/16, but we got caught with car trouble and had to stay at the Motel 6 in Casper - and try to get our car fixed the next day - a Sunday. We had called ahead and spoke to the owner "Ron," to say we were having car trouble and might not make it - and when we finally had to stop in Casper, we tried to call a number of times but the phone answering system kept going back in a loop to the beginning and there wasn't an option to leave a message. ||||So, I was somewhat surprised to see the charge on my credit card for the room. However, when I called the owner and I explained the situation, we were able to work it out, and he agreed to refund me half. I think that's fair, since he was on duty that night and for whatever reason didn't receive my call when we called repeatedly to tell him about our car trouble. ||||I would suggest maybe fixing the phone system, so that no matter what, a guest always has the option of leaving a message, but Ron's an honest guy, it a clean, well-run, privately-owned place - and I would definitely recommend that...
