Spent our 35TH Wedding Anniversary in a bit Adventuress way in recreating our honeymoon so many years ago. We live in the Great State of Texas and drove down to attend a family party, then continue on our Anniversary Adventure. One of our children suggested Christopher Creek area for camping, which we stayed one night in that area at a Forest Service Campground. We then continued on our journey & stumbled across Fools Hollow State Campground and we are so glad that we did! Clean, beautiful scenery, large tent (& r.v. sites), hot showers, flush toilets & running water in restrooms, hand dryers, a playground if you have small children was also available, fire BBQ rings, picnic table, flat areas for tent and long paved driveways. Stunning views and very peaceful! Even with the rain we experienced every late afternoon & evening and although we did have to pick-up & move to another spot down a few spots (due to the fact our spot was reserved the 2nd night), it was all in all wonderful, giving us many warm memories of our special Anniversary to remember for years to come. Will we return? Absolutely! It is really hard to find this clean of a campground often, with a Hot Shower to boot. Thank you to all of the Fools Hollow Campground Rangers for making our Adventure...
Read moreWe stayed in Harrier Loop site 3. It has a beautiful view. But zero privacy. Site 1 is a group camp spot and we had a big group with lots of kids next to us. They were with other campers with lots of kids in a few sites down the way too. The kids screamed all day and night.
Site 4, on the other side of us, had a single camper who was quiet, but his tent was less than 15 feet from our tent and his snoring woke us up at 3am.
The bushes between both camps sites were sparse. You can’t even change clothes without eyes on you. It was like camping in a field with a bunch of strangers. Not enjoyable at all.
Nowhere to hang our hammocks. There were skunks galore at night, part of the reason why the kids were screaming. There’s only one bathroom per gender with no showers in this loop.
Overall, pretty place, but if you want to camp with even an ounce of peace and some privacy, this isn’t the...
Read moreFrom the ease of booking online, to the ranger at check-in, and the very nice hosts, our stay was exceptional. We stayed in the Bald Eagle 29 tent site for 3 nights with views of the lake. We hiked the trails going around the lake and we also rented a 2 person kayak for 1 hour @ $27 and change with tax. I've read other reviews and they started that the bathrooms and showers we dirty and disgusting but from what we saw they were always clean and fully functional. I cannot express how impressed we were with the hosts. We are definitely coming back. BTW, from what we see the best sites are Bald Eagle 29 & 30. Although we didn't get to see other sites because they were occupied that didn't mean that these are the best ones. Only soaking from experience. We definitely recommend Fool Hollow...
