Can't rate Horse Creek high enough. Owners Alyssa and Greg single-handedly saved a poorly-planned vacation — a mountain bike trip down the famous McKenzie River Trail. As a PNW local, I was able to cart my own bike down to McKenzie Bridge. My two friends visiting from Iowa had to rent bicycles. Not a one of us is a planner. Calls were made to hopefully secure rental bikes a mere two hours before we hoped to begin our ride. This should've bit us hard in the ass, MAYBE teaching us a valuable lesson (probably not). But we called Horse Creek and that made all the difference in the world. Alyssa met us at the bike rental/rafting trip headquarters at a moment's notice, was very pleasant and informative, and even offered to shuttle us back the 26 miles to our parked car at the MRT trailhead when we finished our ride. Battle-worn, we arrived at Horse Creek some five hours of single-track later to Alyssa and Greg's pastoral woodland spread where they offered us water, ibuprofen, and a local IPA they had on tap. They also offered to shuttle us back to our car in the vintage Chrysler 300 convertible Greg inherited from his father. As a car guy, I couldn't resist this offer. My compadres stayed behind and shot the proverbial shiz with Alyssa. These people are great. Fantastic human beings living the dream in the beautiful woods near McKenzie Bridge. Their prices are gobsmackingly affordable and their service is top notch. If you're a mountain biker, ask about their on-site pump track. THANKS...
Read moreTook the 4 hour trip down the McKenzie River, to start with the Guide in our Boat Jake had the body odor of a Sasquatch then he insisted that I could not wear my Canvas Tennis shoes on the trip because they would get wet ( no kidding it’s river trip, when I pointed out to him that he was only wearing flip flops he mumbled some lame excuse so I was forced to wear these (waterproof booties) provided by them that were instantly soaked and they were so tight that at the end of the trip when I tried to get out of the boat my feet were asleep so I fell back into the river and crashed into the rocks of course Jake was no where to be seen assisting anyone out of the boat then my Wife had said he booties were way to big could she try a larger size he completely blew her off, also for the 4 hours were were subjected to his ramblings on his philosophy of life as it related to the river, please spare me your pseudo mountain man opinions and maybe pay a little more attention to being quiet and letting us enjoy the view for his final blunder he deliberately swamped the boat making sure I got drenched because I had the nerve to call him out on his whole double standard one set of rules for him and another set of rules for anyone who dared question his utter lack of a personality , a nice river run completely ruined by a so called river guide with a massive ego and so insecure that any one who dared to question him had to be put in their place, how this guy still had a job is beyond me. ...
Read moreThis is my second year camping at Horse Creek Lodge, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else! My partner and I have officially made this our go-to camping spot because it has everything we love about the outdoors.
The campsites are spacious, private, and surrounded by beautiful forest, so it feels peaceful and secluded while still being close to all the amenities you might need. The campground is clean, well-maintained, and perfectly set up for both relaxing and adventuring.
The owners, Alyssa and Gary, are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which makes the whole experience even better. You can tell they really care about their guests.
We also booked a white water rafting trip with them, and it was an absolute blast! The guides are knowledgeable, fun, and make you feel safe the entire time.
Another bonus? The lodge is in a perfect location—there are plenty of gorgeous hiking trails nearby (think waterfalls, mountain views, and forest walks), and some great local restaurants just a short drive away.
Whether you’re looking for a calm nature escape, an adrenaline-filled adventure, or a base camp for exploring the area, this spot truly has it all. If you’re searching for a beautiful, private, family-friendly, adventure-ready campground in Oregon, this is the place you’ll want to come back to year after...
