My wife and I decided last minute to leave town for Memorial Day weekend. The weather was characteristically cold and wet. I searched for a place with a fireplace that was inexpensive. Crazy Blessed Farm fit the bill. Located not far from us, remote enough to escape traffic and crowds, but near enough to needed businesses like grocery and gas. We were welcomed by a cute “welcoming committee “, a friendly little terrier, and her owner. She toured the house with us, sharing important highlights and telling us about the history of the house. The house is a modernized enslaved family’s residence from 200 years ago. It looks the part, inside and out, but doesn’t lack the necessary comforts: well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and a shower that is perhaps better than we have at our home. The TV has a dvd player, but only gets antenna reception. There’s Wi-Fi in the house that works well, if you need it for your phone. We spent the weekend sitting by the propane fireplace and sitting on the porch watching the rain and listening to the birds. Perfect! |This is a working farm and we were invited to walk over to see the animals. A mother goat birthed a baby the first night we were there! Don’t worry, if we couldn’t have seen the farm, we would never have guessed it was there. There was no farm smell or noise that we noticed in the cabin. If you want to get away to disconnect and relax, this...
Read moreDuring my drive back home to Virginia from my vacation in Charleston over labor day my car started smoking and overheating. I pulled into a gas station close by and soon realized that my car was not safe to drive the rest of the way home. I decided I would need to find a place to stay and get my car to a mechanic the next morning. I searched hotels in the area but could not find any within 30 miles. However, this placed popped up on my phone called Crazy Blessed Farm that looked like an Airbnb so I gave them a call. |||| Joanne answered and I explained my situation. She said she had an open room for the night and could not have been more kind and welcoming.|| ||The next morning her husband Duke looked at my car and realized my radiator had a crack in it. He made a call to a local auto shop that had the right radiator for my car and he helped me replace it. My car drove safely home after and don't believe it was by random chance that I broke down here. |||| I cannot thank these people enough for their kindness and generosity! Also, their historic home is beautiful and has so much character. Joanne and Duke are amazing hosts and would highly recommend...

There's no lock on the front door; we were merely offered a padlock for when we left, so there was no way to lock the door when we were there. The building was barely weather-proofed, and there was a sizable gap between the bottom of the front door and the threshold. (I shudder to think what kinds of critters could have joined me in bed.) The bathroom linens looked like they had been cobbled together from towels the owners no longer wanted, including one faded, worn beach towel. The year before I was there, there was an escaped felon on the run in the area; the owner's response was to hand the ladies staying in the cabin a can of Raid and say, "If anyone comes in, spray them with this."
$120/night is asking far too much for what's being offred....
