Overall we enjoyed our stay at Lost Trail a lot. The property is beautiful along the river about a mile from town. The motel rooms are cute and updated, they have a fridge/freezer, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. My biggest complaint is the lack of maid service and/or at least give extra towels, toiletries, TP, etc. We stayed 3 nights and were given 1 roll of tp, 1 tiny bar of soap for body and hand washing and 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner to share and only 2 coffee pods for the entire stay. We did go ask for more halfway thru and they gave us 1 more of each. But I don't like having to go ask for TP or soap, just felt really awkward. Also some fresh towels or wash rags would have been great. I did like the property and outdoor amenities a lot but if I came back to Lava I'd pick somewhere I could walk to the restaurants and stuff. If you want outside of town for more quiet it was good besides the lack of toiletries and towels. Also the bathroom door doesn't give much privacy being a sliding barn door with a crack you can see/hear a lot thru so make sure you're very comfortable with whoever is staying in the room with you. We came for our 14th wedding anniversary and enjoyed our weekend I just didn't like certain aspects of our stay. The town itself is lovely and I can't wait to return!

The room is small, but it's very comfortable and impeccably clean. Whomever was in charge of designing and decorating these rooms made some excellent decisions because they packed a lot of nice amenities into a cozy space. The bathroom is pretty clever, with a touchscreen mirror and an overhead "rain" showerhead. There's a big Visio TV, a fridge with a freezer, a K-cup coffee brewer, and microwave. There's also a white noise machine next to the bed. The bedding was really plush and comfortable and the mattress was terrific. The mattress alone will get me to stay there, next time we go to Lava. The only "negative" I found was the AC/heat unit. It works great and looks pretty new, but it's very close to the bed. Luckily, it isn't pointing at anyone's face. We wondered if the train noise would be a problem, but it wasn't at all. For those who don't find the train noise pleasant, they don't seem to run late at night. It's an excellent value considering everything they've done to make these rooms comfortable and modern. I recommend it highly.

Stay here. It's a lovely place. Very clean and obvious attention to detail. Our room was very small (rm 10, king bed), no table or desk, but for a night or two it was perfect for two of us. The room was very updated and decorated nicely. I always bring my own blanket and pillow or pillow case when I travel, but I didn't feel the need to use them here. That says a lot for me. One of the nicer details were the lace trimmed sheets. So pretty and soft. The place is literally right off the highway so there is some highway noise and regular trains very close, but another thoughtful detail is a sound machine on the nightstand to drown it out. The grounds are beautiful with the Portnouf river running through. The man that checked us in was nice and when I needed new batteries for the TV remote, he took care of it immediately. The only thing I would change about the room would be to mount the TV on the wall so there is a place to set some things down as there was only one small nightstand in the room.

This was a one night stopover for us as we were traveling from one job to the next. It was a happy accident that we decided to stay the night in Lava Hot Springs and found this Inn on google maps. I didn’t ask how long the current owners had been there, but it’s clear they are working on a lot of upgrades on property and in the motel rooms. We stayed in room 10, with a king bed. The rooms may be small, but don’t let that deceive you- almost everything was updated with enough outlets that we could charge our phones and Apple Watches over night. The bed was so much more comfortable than those of our previous several overnight stays, the linens were new and immaculate. The tv worked without any issues, good water pressure with good hot water for a shower, and they had chairs and a small table just outside the room door making it extremely convenient to relax and enjoy the fresh air (or for smokers to avoid smoking in the rooms). The room was CLEAN. They have RV pull through spots and tent campsites along the water, as well as a couple of cabins behind the 10 motel rooms and office, and they are in the middle of putting down fresh sod and gravel and added a small beach area (but what wasn’t down already was placed where it didn’t detract from the appeal of the property and campsites). They’ve also planted some trees and shrubs with more to get planted to add to the appeal and add privacy from the road- speaking of which, in our room we couldn’t hear the traffic of the highway even with it being so close- big bonus for a good nights rest. And for the location and how clean it is and all the updates, the price was MUCH more reasonable than motels in town that didn’t look nearly as inviting from the reviews. The owner who checked us in and his family live on site (I think), and it was so refreshing to be checked in by someone so friendly and who obviously has a passion for providing a great experience to everyone who stays with them. You just don’t get that treatment when you stay at 99.9% of hotels that are part of a nationwide chain, and we stay in a LOT of those.

Overall, I would recommend Lost Trail Inn to anyone passing through Lava Hot Springs for just a night or staying here for a vacation. You...

We loved our stay here, and will definitely be back. The camp spots right on the river bank were soooooooo nice, beautiful, quiet and peaceful, the spots were spacious and compete with all the amenities we could ask for, and the staff and owner’s family (cutest little daughter who made fast friends with our daughter and our dog) were super friendly. We loved the family friendly activities that were included (fire dancers one night - suuuuuuuper cool, then bounce house, movie, and popcorn another night) as well as the variety of activities that were right there at the campground (floating the river, private beach, very nice playground equipment, basketball court and tetherball). Sounds like they’re just adding to it, too, enhancing it even more, including a sauna! It’s nice and clean and well laid out too (not a long trek to the full bathrooms). We love that they’re super kid and dog friendly too. Everyone loved our wonderful Cinda dog.

One thing I’d say for improvement, although I’m still giving a full 5 stars because I’m very happy with our experience, is to make sure staff communicates what is offered in the stay, especially for newbies like we were. It looks like a continental breakfast was included, but we weren’t told about it and had already brought our own food, perhaps it’s just for those that stay in the cabins??? Also give people a g heads up about the evening activities, we had no idea until the evening texts were sent and would’ve hated to miss out on them. There was some mix up with billing (I was initially told that we could pay the remaining balance when we arrived and planned to put it on a different card than the one I had used for the deposit, but as it turns out, it was taken from the same card 48 hours prior to arrival), BUT staff promptly followed up with me and were very willing to work with me to make it right.

I’ve already recommended this campground to others and will continue to do so, and we can hardly wait to...
