My boyfriend and I had a spot booked for our first night (of three) we spent in the area exploring Yosemite. We were originally very impressed with the thought put into this campground- clean bathrooms, trash bags and water ready at every site, relatively quiet and not crowded. Unfortunately, this was all ruined by how we were treated by the camp hosts as we were packing up to leave in the morning. They approached us in their golf cart (male and female) and demanded we pay them an additional $30, as well as threatened to report us to rec.gov, for moving to an open spot directly next to the one we had booked and which was marked available (it was too small for our large tent). They refused any attempts at rational conversation and apologies and then proceeded to pull their golf cart in front of our car, blocking us in, threatening our personal space and belongings, and quite honestly jarring both of us enough to leave us scared for our safety and feeling extremely threatened. The hosts used aggression and intimidation to get us to throw out an additional $30 for a spot we had already paid for (and the campground was not full). We are courteous and seasoned campers, left the site clean, disposed of our waste and stored food properly, and pointed this out to them as well as profusely apologizing for the misunderstanding, but they continued to harass us while we tried to resolve the issue calmly. After we gave them the $30 cash they still continued to say they were going to report us to rec.gov and thus prevent us from booking ANY sites in the future (“I’m still going to write you up because I don’t like your attitude”) and proceeded to circle around my vehicle to get my license plate number. We will never be coming back to this campsite because of how the hosts treated us. I hope they will have more compassion and respect for other campers in future misunderstandings and I hope rec.gov cares enough about their campers to employ hosts that make their visitors feel protected and welcome, not...
Read moreI had to cancel my Yosemite vacation due to lots of rain, so I drove out to Hetch Hetchy, where there was also lots of rain (that's a GOOD thing, folks!) and drove through Dimond O Campground, scouting for local spots to camp. I was IMPRESSED! Although there was almost nobody there, probably because it's before Memorial Day and it was raining, I saw that the parking areas were long and flat, good for RV's and cars with trailers (like me!) and that the tent areas were perfectly leveled by hand! I can't wait to find the time to go back, and use this place as the base for motorcycle rides of the Park, but not in the rain.
It was mostly missed by the Rim Fire, which was very close, and if you look around, you'll see thousands of examples of fire ecology and rejuvenation at work. The lupines were everywhere!
The one review (in German) revived my high school German classes, but I think that he was disappointed. And the photo suggests that he's probably disappointed a lot. "Ya. Ess is eina...
Read moreThis is my second time coming here and it’s great. There are bathrooms available and they are CLEAN (Non flushing). There’s accessible clean water from faucets around the campsite. There are campsites for first come first serve and campsites that are reserved. A river is very close by if you wish to jump in the river I recommend that you wear some type of footwear to protect your feet. It it’s very rocky but a great place to cool down when the sun starts to hover right above you. There’s fire wood on site available to purchase. If you need to use a flushing toilet or ice or supplies there is a convenient store about ten minutes from the campsite. If you drive back out to the entrance and make a left just drive down until you hit Evergreen Lodge. The nearest hiking trail from Dimond O is Hetchy Hetchy. Just drive pass Evergreen Lodge until you come to a stop make a right and you’ll hit the gate entrance. It’s 35$ a vehicle and they are open until 5 PM. BRING PLENTY OF WATER if you decide to hike...
