Royal Inn — Hotel in South Bend

I am still traumatized by my experience here! I have stayed in some bad places in my life, so I wasn't put off by the look on the outside of the building. I just grabbed our pillows and blankets and my flip flops and got ready for an interesting night.||||My boyfriend went and got us a room (last resort as everything was booked up). Walking into the "lobby" was my first clue with the floor to ceiling mirrors and a 1 way mirror that was closed so you couldn't see the receptionist. Eerie crack head prostitute place feel. ||||When the door to our room opened nothing could prepare me for the experience! The ceiling and walls were completely covered in mirror, from mid way down a dirty old green carpet covered everything else in the room. The bed was like a waterbed style with no water, the edges covered in the same nasty green rug. I do not even want to talk about the mattress underneath the sheet (the sheet was clean though). The worst was there was a hook at the top of the bed on the ceiling for what...a swing? ||||All I could think of was that this room could feature in a horror movie where the girl is kept and abused. I have stayed at some crappy motels but this is one of the worst. Maybe it hadn't been so awful if it wasn't for the glossy brouchures that showed a total diffrent motel in the lobby. It showed rooms with heart shaped bathtubs and champagne and roses, The reality was something totaly different. The ugly carpet that covered almost everything except the mirrored walls was full of stains and marks from cigarettes buttons. Where the tub once stod was now another bed. But they hadn't fixed the floor after the removal. Just put a bed over it. No luminiers, just a lot of empty holes. The only lamp in the room had no lampshade. An emplyee went and sprayed air freschener just befor we got to the room. We had to have the door open for at least an hour so we could breath in there.||But becuase it was so awful, we couldn't stop laughing. When we saw the mirror above one of the bed, we lost it. Especially when we saw the waunderbaum hanging there where a lamp just hung. It was new-car-scent!! ||So if you want to laugh until you cry. Then stay here. If...

Run Away from this pathetic place. I'm not a picky person but I can't give enough details on the poor condition of this place. You could compare this place to a 70"s exotic motel. The room was covered in carpet from the bed to a bench. Mirrors are covering the walls an the ceiling. The carpet is stained and every appliance is out dated. I was there with my girl friend and we took 3 min in room and we decided stay in the car. We traveled from Indianapolis for the notre dame game. We decided to drive to merriville Indiana were we had family to stay. After arguing with the staff and getting the second day refunded we wanted to get the first day refi des since we didn't stay. They refused and we left. This place should not be in business. Even as a last resort you will not want to stay here at the royal inn. This review doesn't even give justice on how bad this place is.
