We had a wonderful stay at Hawks House, and we found our host, Steve, congienial and informative. Hawks House is centrally located on the "Maine Oyster Trail". There is no shortage of great restaurants and activities of all sorts in the surrounding area. Host Steve was beyond helpful in choosing where to go, and his candid assessments proved to be spot on. We can't say enough about how wonderfully helpful Steve has been as a guide to the area. Hawks House is clean and well maintained, and Steve makes every effort to insure the comfort of his guests. A bar with coffee, water for tea, and banana bread is a welcome start to every morning. A good sized refrigerator is available to guests, and was very welcome. A reading area and a pleasant porch were delightful. We especially enjoyed the outdoor garden with its Adirondack chairs: perfect for quaffing champagne for a special occasion. There's plenty of convenient parking.
At this point I'm going to beg your indulgence. I'm going to step up to my pulpit, so leave here if you'd rather not entertain my rant. I've given Hawks House a well deserved 5 stars. Steve and Hawks House should not lose points to my opinion. I should say, as well, that Hawks House does not bill itself as a B&B. I would like to note, however, that an increasing number of B&Bs no longer serve breakfast. To be clear, it isn't that we need breakfast: we are on a tour of Down East Maine Seafood Culinary delights. What we do miss is the congeniality that comes about when fellow guests share their experiences. We have found that folks who frequent B&Bs seek out the road less traveled, the one where delights abound in quiet corners. I've spoken with folks who run B&Bs, and I get it. Covid has raised health concerns that hadn't been there before, and caused owners to take a financial hit. Complicating all this is US: we compare prices online where a difference of a couple dollars may dictate our choice. And, a further complication: one bad review, fair or not, can sully an otherwise wonderful establishment. So, Steve, pardon my rant. Thank you for our wonderful stay with you. It has truly been memorable, and we thank you from the bottom...

Everything from the first review holds true and Steve (innkeeper) continues to make tasteful upgrades. The small prep kitchen in the breakfast nook is a very nice upgrade from our last visit.
Highlights: Quiet, comfortable beds, nice showers, good window A/C units, and great WiFi (much appreciated with the very poor cell service in the local area). Coffee is fresh and quality. Banana bread is perfect to start the day.
Steve and the Hawks House Inn are a real gem for the local area.
Clean and well maintained historic inn located in the perfect Maine community. It is exactly what a 19th century farmhouse should be; with just enough modern convenience. The A/C in each room is appreciated. Showers are great. Beds are very comfortable. More electrical plugs than you would expect. No TV in our room (Room 3)…and that’s exactly the way it should be. Fast and stable WiFi.
Steve is a gracious host who is always available and never over bearing. The breakfast is simple; with good local coffee and tasty banana bread. It’s enough fuel to get you going for the day. Perfect spot for a Damariscotta / Pemaquid vacation. Would highly recommend and will definitely rebook when returning...
Read moreI cannot recommend this place enough! I picked it randomly without knowing anything about Maine, and it was perfect. I was traveling by myself, so it was really nice to have a common space to chat with other travelers. The room was super cozy, and I never had any issues sharing the bathroom with one other room.
Steve, the owner, is absolutely the highlight of the establishment. Besides being a lovely building, he makes a fantastic breakfast and is incredibly friendly and wonderful to talk with. I also owe him a lot. I dropped my phone in the toilet while I was there, and even though he had work to do, he helped my by letting me use the phone and printer, and really made all the difference in helping me get a new phone ASAP. I honestly don't know what I would have done if I had been at a place that wasn't so friendly, or a large hotel. I had a pretty rough day and Steve's help was one of the things that made it ok.
He also had wonderful recommendations on restaurants and spots to go walking and watch the sunset. And had the perfect yard for watching the meteor shower that was happening that night.
So between location, accommodations, breakfast, and Steve himself, I couldn't recommend this place more. If I am ever back in Maine I will certainly...
