We choose this location because of proximity to the Steeler's stadium which in game day traffic is about a 50 minute drive. Small campground with limited amenities and planned activities although in fall it was very nice to see the foliage as woods surround the campground. Campground is hard to find off interstate 79 unless you are paying attention to the KOA wayfinder signs. Also pay attention to website instructions. Our gps was not correct in identifying where the entrance was located, about 1/2 mile short, so look for signs otherwise you will be in trouble especially in this hilly part of PA. Finding it in the dark can be quite an adventure as well but look for the small signs and keep going on Vance Station Dr until you see the large KOA sign to the right (pointing to take a left turn up a slope) The turns are tight so be prepared ahead of time. Transient part is located on a slope with pads cut into hillside meaning sites are uneven to a degree. Bring blocks for front wheels if in a motorhome. Water pressure was low, about 25 to 30 psi. If you have a water heater tank which requires more you will be in trouble. Campground is also located between 2 interstates so a silent nature experience outside this is not. Sites are very tight as our awning touched our neighbor's slideout and we were over as far left as we could be. Rates were reasonable in the fall for the sites. A few seasonal campers were in the transient part and one party were weed smokers which was a bummer if outside and smelling it constantly. It does appear the owners are trying to upgrade the facility with new decks and gas grills, new playground equipment, although a small area, a fenced in dog walk area and an area under excavation for new sites next year. The pool was not open but looked very small and increasing the number of sites will only add numbers to the limited areas for children to play and swim. The check in desk and store area is very rustic as well so bring your things with you! There is no cable and we could not get the local channels thru the antenna but with our Verizon FIOS mobile app we were able to stream most of our FIOS channels just fine. WiFi seemed decent as well. Many campers had satellites. An okay place to stay a couple of nights because you are doing something in the local area or just passing thru and need a place to settle...
Read moreExpectations were not set when I called to see if they were open and had availability for a monthly spot. We stayed for about 2 weeks prior to camping season started on March 15th. The showers/sinks (hair everywhere! And smelled awful) looked they hadn't been cleaned in months. The monthly area of the campground is down at the bottom of hill and all of the empty spaces had things that people had left behind [sewage hoses, a recliner,... just random stuff everywhere.] The laundry room also looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The whole place just looks run down. Mark, who met us lives on property and it seemed he was the one that was responsible for everything during the winter months. He apologized for some of it and I could tell with the weather it is hard to keep up with some of the every day cleaning. I wrote an email letting them know my concerns and did receive a phone call from Mike. He explained some things and I understood some of what he was saying but told him they should have communicated during the phone call that they were "technically not open" for anyone outside the pipeliners. Not a family friendly spot during cold months. Another mother told me the playground was not in good shape, dangerous because it was falling apart and had nails sticking out all over it. I give this KOA a 2 star rating because everyone was friendly and they did clean the showers after our phone conversation and laid new gravel in the monthly sites area AND it was just 10 mins from town. If we had needed to stay longer for my husband's job I would have liked to have seen what else would have changed with camping season starting up. I just wanted to write an honest review for any other traveling families who may look at this place for somewhere to stay in the Washington PA area. They should have communicated better and should still keep up with cleanliness to the best of their abilities during slow months OR...
Read moreAs for being one of the oldest KOAs in existence, this park is excellent. I read all of these negative reviews of the “so-called” full time RVers and I can’t help but wonder how they made it this far in life. This KOA is in Washington,PA. There is nothing but hills. The sites are level. I’m not going to complain about the hills because it’s not the owners faults and I understand geographically where it is located. I bet you “full time” RVers complain about how flat it is when you stay at KOAs in Kansas. And I see some of the Gas well industry long term guests complaining about the bathrooms being so dirty and also the laundry dryers not drying. Probably the same workers that ignore the posted signs and walk through bathrooms with muddy work boots and throw their garbage all over and overload all of the dryers and wonder why they don’t work. Or maybe the long term guests who desperately need a place to park for work and beg you to just park in grass somewhere because the Sites are full, are the same ones the complain about how narrow the long term sites are once they get one. Just a guess. The road coming into the campground is a local “state” road. The campground and it’s owners have nothing to do with the road and cannot change it. They also have no control over what people have in their yards on the way to the KOA. Saw some reviews about that. Seriously? Some of you so called RVers, AKA “Glampers” should just quit trying the camping thing and stick to your hotel rooms, room service, 4 lane roads, digital cable and iPads. Anyways. Great KOA! I hear there’s a Walmart 3 miles down the street for all of you Glampers. I’m sure their parking lot will suit all of your...
