This had to be one of the most unique places I've stayed at, and I can't say enough wonderful things about it. The idea of staying in a Yurt came through a glamping search, near National Parks, that were a reasonable drive from me. I came across this place online, and after a few minutes of looking through the photos, I knew this was where I was going to vacation. The location was great- about a 20-30 min drive from Acadia, depending on where you want to go. If you plan your park trips accordingly, this is perfectly fine. The distance is nice since it forces you to drive and see the area. The space where the yurts are located is peaceful and quiet. While the property was full (based on all the assigned parking spaces being full) you could never tell. All the residents were super quiet and respected the quiet hours. It made it feel like we have the whole place to ourselves.
Let's discuss the yurt itself (they also have tiny homes but we didn't stay in them). The yurt was nicer than my home in some respects- there is on-demand hot water, so you can wash dishes AND take an incredibly long shower at the same time, and always have hot water! That's a luxury my own house doesn't have. The furnishings are nice and thoughtful- plenty of amenities in the kitchen, form a french press, and coffee and sugar and spices. More things are here than at most air BNB's I've stayed in. The circle shape is unique, and the top observation bubble window is wonderful. If you can manage to stay when there is rain, I recommend it. We had a downpour one day and it enhanced our trip- hearing the rain pelt the sides of the yurt, and seeing the trees sway through the window, really added something extra.
The property has a wellness center attached with a float tank, a massage room, a sauna, and yoga- there is nothing like doing yoga in the middle of the woods on vacation, if you ask me The fire pit is right outside the wellness center and has a nice bricked in circle with large sturdy tree stumps to sit on. There are hammocks to use, and communal outdoor grills and screened in eating areas.
There is a laundry facility, and a pantry that as items to check out like brownie pans and lobster pots. There are DVD's and books to borrow, and you can take anything (and leave anything) in the pantry. We found shampoo and soap, mac and cheese, and popcorn there. We left a lot of our groceries to pay it forward and thank the people who left us biscuit mix, pancake mix, and an assortment of other things.
The owners could not be nicer- they were so communicative and accommodating. They run the wellness center, so I took yoga classes and got a massage, too. It was one of the BEST massages I ever had. My masseuse (the owner) didn't talk during it (which is something I like but never feel comfortable requesting) so I was totally relaxed. Her yoga classes were amazing- all supplies were given and you just show up. The float tank was a new experience for me- and I was thrilled. It took a little getting used to (definitely use the ear plugs!!) but once I did it was so relaxing, I fell asleep.
I look forward to coming back, but next time I might indulge and treat myself to a solo trip. Such peace, such comfort, such a great...
Read moreI just returned home from a week-long stay at Acadia Yurts and it was magical. It has been on my bucket list for years to both visit Acadia National Park and to stay in a yurt for the first time, so it was absolutely perfect! Got to tick both things off! Staying in the yurt was definitely the highlight of my trip! I loved EVERYTHING about it! The yurts are spacious, clean, cozy and well-maintained with everything you could need and more! A fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, steaming hot shower, super comfy queen bed, Wi-Fi, and a heat pump providing both heat and AC. Not a single detail overlooked. The thoughtful attention to detail that went into designing the yurts brought an extra layer of warmth and comfort. The location on the quiet side of the island was perfect. Only a 20-30 min drive from Acadia and Bar Harbor and everything I wanted to see and do. The best part was returning home each night after a full day of exploring Acadia because the adventure didn’t stop there! The adventure continues because the yurts are such a fun, cool, unique and almost otherworldly place to stay! All the magic of a little house nestled in the woods! Aaron and Karen were fantastic hosts! Literally the nicest people ever! I was so glad I had the chance to chat with them and get to know them a bit. They live right next door and are always happy to help if you ever should need anything or answer any questions you might have. They’ll always go above and beyond to make you feel at home and make sure you get the full experience! I would recommend to absolutely anyone who would want to take a trip to Acadia National Park and experience just that little extra touch of adventure! I loved every second of my stay and didn’t want it to end. Already dreaming about when I can come...
Read moreThis is one of the best places you can stay if you are looking to stay in something completely different than what you usually do. We were thinking cabin in the Acadia area, but found this and were quick to hop on it. We spent a marvelous week with our pup Hattie in the Flying Mountain Yurt.||And this yurt was kitted out with a wonderful bed, fantastic kitchen, great sitting spaces, huge bathroom, and just the coolest place the spend the week!||Each day we went out and explored the whole area, and we came back to this home away from home! Really just so very special.||Besides the yurt - the community of folks visiting in the area that were staying in other Yurts were just fantastic! The owners - Karen and Arron were so attentive to the whole idea of nature, and sustanability. Really just everything was thought of and provided for us.||And it is a small thing as people don't usually read them - but they provided a wonderful manual of sorts to the Yurt, the property, and what to do in the area around you. We just felt that we had control to do what was needed right there. And if we did have any questions - Karen or Arron answered them either via phone call when we were up there, or by email - all very quick.||I loved being in a place where the owners take responsibility for caring for the earth and our footprint. ||I would not call this a motel or hotel. It is a Yurt, and a heavenly experience! Did I mention waking up at 3 am something and looking up and seeing the stars?||Thanks...
