Briarwood Inn of Sparta — Hotel in Sparta

This place had very nice rooms for a decent price. Everything was “new” when I stayed there. The only thing that stops me from ever going back there again, are the rude Arabs or Indians at the front desk. They are so rude and will not answer your calls to the front desk and they LIVE IN THERE TOO. So with that being said they think they are on their own time and don’t have to care for others. Last but NOT LEAST, my second night staying there I went to turn the shower handle all the way hot and the person who previously stayed in the room before me broke it and just put it back on as a temporary fix. I go to the office to tell the manager and it takes 30 minutes for me to get ahold of him at the front desk and then when he did come to help fix it he had an attitude the whole time while I kept apologizing to him telling him I’m sorry and it was an accident. HE ENDED UP CHARGING ME $275 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF A FAUCET HANDLE THAT I DIDN'T BREAK. If I could give this place a negative 5...

Our room was EXTREMELY HOT! We checked in after 10pm the end of July, obviously this is a typically hot time of year in Southern Illinois. The air should have been on all day but was completely off when we walked in. Although the staff was nice, their answer to the dilemma was a box fan to help cool .the room, which didn't happen until after 2am! They eventually offered a different room but who wants to move in the wee hours of the night? We were given $20 back. Staff is friendly, however, the rooms need much attention. Paint literally was peeling off the wall in the shower and our room smelled like a smoking parlor, which was bewildering considering the fact that Illinois prohibits smoking in most public places including hotels. Won't be staying there...

This motel had infestation of ants in room 124.. I was there with my daughter and 2small children.. We woke up during night ants were on everything..,even one of the babies bottles that we threw out..my daughter found sticky substance that was on the dresser..the room felled of mildew, I thought my grandson had made a poop.. The bathroom door wouldn't close all the way, was swollen.. Signifying that it had been water damaged...we had 1night stay.. Came to hotel @ 11pm for bed .. Didn't have hot water..
