we got here only to find out the outdoor pools were closed for the season, - it was 85 the whole week we were there so we had no idea it would be closed and nothing references this on their site - it inconspicuously lists the "indoor pool times" but says nothing about the outdoor pools, The adventure park only open on weekends (we arrived on a Sunday and it was already closed and were leaving Friday) The Escape room was only open Thursday- Thursday was the day we already booked the DC zoo..... again none of these decreased hours were mentioned to us when we arrived. there was something on the web about hours changing from 8/9 thru 9-6 but it being after that time (we arrived 9/19) we assumed the delay was over. there were cobwebs all over the campground.... we tried to take a walk but I am not joking there were cobwebs everywhere! They definitely don't maintain their trails..... The gentleman at the front told us "he wouldn't swim in the lake" not being from here we took his advice..... we were informed that in order to fish on their Lake we needed a MD fishing license...... and there was no fishing equipment so we would have needed to buy everything- we have this stuff at home so we opted not to fish..... instead of stressing out we decided to call it a loss and we left first thing Tuesday. I was horrified..... before I left I went to check out the beach.... there was feces EVERWHERE. there seems to be some geese that have made the beach their home. the beach lists as suitable for making sandcastles...... someone would have gotten very ill if they played in that sand...... I have a picture but wont post out of respect. it was very clear they were not actively taking care of maintenance - it was like the season was over and everyone went home. it was very unexpected and extremely disappointing to 3 kids who were looking forward to this trip for the past 9 months. after we left we were charged a 63.00 resort fee..... maybe they can use that to help clean the trails and the beach...... It would have been one thing if it was CLEARLY stated the campground facilities are seasonal and only through labor day- people coming from away are not aware of your "seasons" and policies on when you open and close things. Being from the North we swim in cold water so to us it was still very much summer when we came. More so I just want this review to help someone else that may have other expectations when coming here "off season". as for the Cabins. they were clean, but the AC upstairs is minimal and I can't imagine staying up there in the middle of the summer as it got hot in mid September up there. we also had an ant infestation in the kitchen. You can tell they were aware of it because we opened one of the bottom drawers and there were several ant baits laying out. - they weren't working..... Im really one of the lowest maintenance people you could ever meet. I could have been very easily pleased - this was really not a good...
Read moreThe representatives were very forceful in talking my girlfriend and I into buying into "partial ownership of the land" which is actually just a timeshare package. They had lied to us asking if we planned on buying a home as "this would make your credit look better since it is ownership of property", so we had finally given in as we were planning on buying our first home in the near future. It did not show as ownership of anything on any credit report, but the debt did show. Since then it has only been struggle after struggle trying to talk to staff about anything that may be viewed as negative about their business, no matter how nicely you approach it. We had spoken with many representatives of theirs over the years, none of them will ever let you negotiate anything, not even a single cent (we've tried).
The timeshare only comes with one free weekend a year, to which we additionally have to pay $430/year on maintenance fees towards. The "Free Weekend" only comes with a tiny trailer on the land which is typically very poorly kept up. Broken door knobs and drawers, spiderwebs aplenty, and either light-bulbs burn out or switches that don't work.
When we go we usually have to "upgrade" to a cabin, which is definitely nicer than the trailers. They are very basic and quaint. Not worth the expense unless you have multiple people to split up the additional (on top of other additional) costs.
For those that do go, do not "buy in to the property", just go for a weekend and get a cabin or better if you can afford it. Make use of any/all amenities they offer at the time. Do not let them talk you into anything you don't already want, every representative they have is very good and seem to be trained in many tactics to sell or persuade customers (not always nicely, either).
We have since then contacted a lawyer, to which he has dealt with "numerous cases each year about Wilderness Presidential Resorts". He promises our money returned to us (for a decent fee, of course) since "they always settle out of courts for fear of a class-action lawsuit". A simple Google search across the web shall easily reveal their tactics and complaints against them as many have spoken out about them over time, the only thing is, people have to know...
Read moreWe used our timeshare here and won't again. I got packages at the main office today and yesterday and no one called me to let me know they were there even though I had asked them if they would. We just came to the pool outdoor pool near the housing and the front girl that runs the desk is like a mean girl. She doesn't smile. She's just on her phone. When she switched to spring in lifeguard chair she didn't walk around, nod or look behind her at ALL. Watch your kids. Most good lifeguards move about and to all directions in the pool. If my daughter has trouble, she would not have seen. Everything is very run down. Our kitchen light worked. Sometimes it didn't. The Wi-Fi is very slow. They don't have a dish rack on many other basic supplies. We had a slow drain in our kitchen. They came to fix it but it's not really fixed. All of the levers on the air conditioning vents are broken so you can't shut them off. My sister was upstairs sweating while I was freezing. The gym is AWFUL. Really old equipment, stained towels and no fan. It was very humid and even if ac is on a fan would be great. I bought a fan. They give you a few towels as possible. If you wash them in your washer. The washer is so small. It takes up almost the entire washer. I don't know what other places around here are like, but our timeshare can be used in places that are very luxurious. I have been to many places similar to this and I think the service and the facilities are much better in other places. The only thing that was really good is the guys that run the ropes course. They were amazing. But some of the employees need to learn to be a little more friendly. I reserved under a family members name. I would've been fool enough to use my real name. We also saw there was an indoor pool. It was closed. It was too hot outside and sunny. I have skin cancer so no sun. I didn't swim. It would help if lifeguard chair was set back enough to see whole pool. They would have better visibility at the opposite end of pool. She was also chatting with a man in pool for twenty minutes or so and wasn't watching kids. Usually, lifeguards are pretty...
