Thomas Canyon Campground is located 7 miles up Lamoille Canyon in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The canyon road comes to a dead-end a few miles further up from the campground to a major trailhead that verges off into hikes varying in lengths from 2 - 7 miles round trip. The Campground itself is fairly spartan with 42 campsites, a few potable water stations, and clean restrooms with vaulted toilets -- rustic, but adequate. There are no showers or other amenities.
There is also a trailhead inside the campground that begins at campsite 33. The hike is fairly steep, but levels off periodically as it follows a stream up the mountain with several small waterfalls. The campground and hiking trials are dog friendly but do require dogs to be leashed. Overall, the campsites provide little seclusion. We found the campground to be crowded, noisy, and the Host to be indifferent to our questions/concerns. I would recommend Thomas Canyon Campround as a stopping point to a better adventure , but not as a vacation destination. There are too many superior Campgrounds...

We walked up the trail that’s located at this campground and it was absolutely, breathtakingly gorgeous. I took pictures with my canon camera so I wasn’t able to upload the pictures from our hike, but trust me, it was worth the climb.
I would recommend this place to anyone with a medium to small sized camper or RV or anyone tent camping. The attendant/camp host was extremely nice and helpful. It’s also a great...

I originally planned to go hiking around the Sierras or in Utah but the monsoon season was a bit too unpredictable. I decided to go up to the Ruby Mountains since it had been on my list for a while, but I failed to do research. With zero planning, I pulled up to the canyon hoping to catch a site to camp. As I pulled in, I noticed the camp host hanging out near the entrance. I asked him about availability and he gave me some solid info! I was able to grab one of the last 3 sites available! Keep in mind this was on a Tuesday evening. I was stunned to find out how full it was. Anyways, loved the camp site. Fire pit, grill, excellent spot for a tent, and the waterfall was...
