Had a nightmare of an experience at this motel. It is not the same as it used to be at all Not sure exactly what is going on at all here. Arrived in the afternoon around check in time and greeted by an at the time, friendly middle age white male new manager. My sister, son, and I travelled many hours from out of state where I live now (I am originally from this area and 11 years ago lived at this motel when it was still Riviera Motel, and this is usually where I stay when I'm back in town visiting) and were very tired upon arriving. Was given a very run down, dirty room and it smelled of marijuana and cigarettes pretty strongly, but didn't really notice until after the commotion of bringing in all the luggage and food we purchased, so we decided to not complain and just relax, again it was a very long ride with a toddler and I'm not usually one to complain unless it's really horrible. After we got my son settled, we were trying to get the broken air conditioner to work, because when he touched it, it fell apart. I guess the manager was right outside the door when we were fidling with it and he knocked on the door. Still very friendly, he fixed it after making a remark about the marijuana smell in the room. I told him that it was already there when we walked in, jokingly added we haven't been there long enough for it to be from us. Fast forward about 5 hours later. During this time I made two trips to town for supplies I was missing, once to the Ladd Casey's, and the Dollar General and Casey's in Spring Valley. Also our cousin came to visit for about a half hour with her daughter that is my son's age, because she was coming through the area and we hadn't seen her in a long time. Then my sister's friend stopped on his way to work and visited for about a half hour. Now here is where stuff gets weird. I get a knock on the door at approximately midnight, my child was fast asleep and my sister and I were finishing the show we were watching and about to go to sleep ourselves. There are 5 police officers at my room door. Totally confused, positive they have the wrong room, as I have done nothing wrong, answer the door, and step outside as to not wake my son. The police, both Illinois State Police and Spring Valley PD claim they have received many anonymous calls about an odor of marijuana coming from my room and a high amount of traffic. Then preceded to say they smelled the marijuana when I opened the door. I told them that it was not possible to come from us, as we were not smoking anything but cigarettes, but there was an odor when we arrived and even had a conversation with the manager, so it's possibly coming from another room. They went and got the manager to confirm, and things got even more odd. Now he is acting rude and weird. He comes with the paperwork that I signed from the room, and lets the police officers walk in my room to look around, WHILE MY SON IS ASLEEP. They see nothing, smell nothing but cigarettes, but THE MANAGER TOLD US TO LEAVE AND REFUSED A REFUND. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. We had a smoking room and were only smoking cigarettes, very few at that, and they found nothing. Instead of apologizing for making a mistake, they made us pack up and leave after midnight with a two year old in tow. No refund to help with another room. So either this is a way for them to steal money from customers, or the police own the motel now and they are doing sting operations, either way, the way we were treated was wrong and I am informing every major news outlet and bigwig attorney until I find out why I was treated this way. I only come to the area to visit family. I live out of state now and have for a long while, but over the years, between moves, and while visiting this used too be a nice, inexpensive place to get a room, now it became my worst experience ever at a motel abd travelling in general, not to mention so dang embarrassing. Not...

All the staff I encountered were extremely professional, and exceeded my expectations for this property. The property itself is older, but the rooms have mostly been updated. My room was very large, and the bedding was clean, and very comfortable, as was the other furniture. The rooms have outside entrances, which is a plus in my book.||Although I didn't need it, the A/C worked great, as well as the mini fridge/freezer, microwave, and the huge HD, flat screen TV. The television had premium channel service including several movie channels. Free WiFi worked fine for my purposes.||||The location is directly off I-80 near Spring Valley and Ladd Illinois. However, there isn't much around the property, mostly fields. Really not much for kids to do but explore the outdoors, which can still be fun.||||There is a Casey's quick mart and gas station on the other side of|| I-80, and they have a lot of stuff. More dining and shopping is down the road at bit at the Peru exit, maybe 2 miles. There you'll find||Wal-Mart, and every franchise dining place imaginable.||||I would stay at Spring Valley Inn again, based on location, price, and service. Spring Valley offers short/long term stays also, so there are some residents around, but everyone I encountered and greeted seemed pretty low key.||||Smoking is not allowed in rooms, so a lot of folks go just outside their room and smoke. So if you have your door open your probably gonna smell it if that bothers you. Some of the hardware, and switches in the room were broken or just didn't work, however the main switches and lighting worked fine. The fan in the bathroom was pretty loud, but...
