We've ridden at Durham Plantation, Highland Park, the State Trails, and various other places. For trail riding, the Ridge stands above the rest. The owner of the Ridge wanted to create a great place for families to ride, and that's just what he accomplished. ||||There are all trails for all levels of riders, and they are clearly marked. We enjoyed that near junction of most trails there is a sign and arrow pointing "home". Our favorite trails were the black diamonds that crossed the streams multiple times. Most of the creeks were pebbled on the bottom and crystal clear. The trails were challenging, but doable. We also enjoyed that some of the trail was actually rocks, or appearing to be part of an old creek bed. That is the part that makes the Ridge special. It's all about experiencing nature, and at the same time being able to challenge your technical limits, or race your kid on the straightaways. The Ridge doesn't pretend to be a Spa, or strictly commercial endeavor. You feel like your riding in some secret place with the owners permission instead of a public course. There are some trails that feel carved out of the mountain, and others that are what you would normally expect. There are trails for all levels of riders, that are clearly marked at several spots along the way, and on a map. The areas where there is cross traffic are clearly marked, along with any other safety information.||||The hidden gem is innocuously marked on the trail map as a bluff, and as a cave. The are around the cave is a beautiful mixture of waterfalls, rocks, streams, and smaller caves under the Rock Bluff overhead. My 9 year old I could not believe such an amazing place was not part of some amusement park, or touristy endeavor. This area alone is worth the view, and you can even ride right up to it on your ATV, or hike. We enjoyed exploring the caves, and you can even see black marks under the bluffs from past campers. Were they campers from last weekend, or the Native Americans that roamed the area long ago? That part of the facility is truly like stepping back in time. You hear nothing but the wind, and smell nothing but nature.||||There is a few guest rooms, a cabin or two, and campsites. They sell snacks, new and used gear, and the basic repair parts, and also have a vehicle "demudding" station. They also have an RC course. There isn't a mechanic on site, they don't have fuel, and they don't have a full service restaurant. But that's ok, because you feel like your riding at a family members favorite spot. You don't feel like your riding at some place who's whole intent is to try to make as much money as possible (Durham Plantation). Just and example: It's just $20 for adults to ride, and a half cord of firewood is $40 for campers, cabin renters, or the general public. Most places like State Parks, or Cabin rentals charge $5 for just a few pieces.||||For most riders, the tracks and races are the big attraction. The Ridge has those also. The tracks are challenging, well maintained, and fun! Finding a challenging Moto track is common, but the trails are the prize at the Ridge and reason enough to visit. Forget traveling far out of town, or out of state. Visit the Ridge and you will come back again,...
Read moreI went for the tracks! No maintenance at all! Actually dangerous to jump because of ruts and wash outs! The website said not maintained often but looked like not done since last fall, not sure! Would of asked if someone there when I left! Was pulled off track few minutes after five and told to stop an said were closed, on Sat evening! Website said open till six! Place was all locked up and empty before I left! A Few people that worked there may have been in there cars ready to go. There were still people out in the trails still! What if someone got hurt! Dead trees lying every where, from two years ago, I was told! The place has so much potential and needs a good maintenance man! The trails I rode were decent! Main building was really nice inside and the people were friendly! Set up more for trail riders and other things I guess,...
