We have been staying at Mtn River for about 3 years now and it’s become ‘home away from home’.

You have your choice of river or mountainside sites. We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing.

The campground owners are fantastic people who’ve become friends. The live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there’s also a dog park area.

The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C.

They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more!

Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play.

Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground.

The camp store has expanded and features a mix of touristy items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They’re in the process of building a new office/camp store so we’re excited to see this complete.

We have a 40’ fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds.

Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We’ve been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)!

Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There’s also a local dollar store about 5min away.

We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We’ve met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings...

We’ve been visiting Mountain River Family Campground annually for several years now, and we simply cannot speak highly enough of this incredible place. Despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Helene, the campground has come back strong and fast, and it’s clear that the owners are committed to maintaining this beautiful piece of property.

This year, I was able to work remotely while we were there, and I was genuinely impressed with the internet connectivity—yes, it’s that good! I was instructing virtually and had no issues whatsoever. It’s an unexpected but very appreciated perk for those needing to stay connected while enjoying nature.

The campground is incredibly family-friendly, and there are plenty of campers with dogs, so it’s also a great spot for pet owners. While we don’t have a dog right now, we love seeing so many happy, well-behaved pets enjoying the space. The sites are all well-maintained and spacious, and the bathrooms are always clean, which is a huge bonus. Trash pickup is twice a day, so the place is always tidy and organized.

We love it so much that we always book our next vacation here two years out, that’s how much we look forward to returning! It’s truly a place we can’t wait to experience again.

Beyond the campground itself, there are tons of fun things to do nearby. Whether you’re into hiking, fishing, or exploring the local area, there’s always something to keep the whole family entertained.

Overall, we feel incredibly lucky to be able to visit this beautiful spot each year, and we’re already looking forward to our next stay. If you’re looking for a peaceful, well-maintained, and welcoming place to camp with your family, Mountain River Family Campground is it....

Well, Mountain River Campground, you used to be one of my wife's and my favorite campgrounds but that has changed. Friday we booked reservations for 05/14/2023 to 05/18/2023 (Sunday to Thursday). Got everything loaded and ready to come Sunday and our truck failed to start. We called AAA around 8:30 and they finally showed up at 6:30 Sunday evening. Not knowing how long it would take to get the truck repaired, my wife called you and explained our situation. She requested that we could change our reservation to next week Sunday through Thursday. Totally insensitive to our problem, your receptionist said no and the campground policy was that no changes could be made on the day of arrival. No exceptions. Although we have stayed at Mountain River several times and gave many recommendations for the campground to many of our friends and have met the owners several times (even bought an ebike from them), that didn't make a difference. My wife was told policy is policy and cannot be changed. So we lost and you got $297 due to an unforeseen circumstance beyond our control. But worse than that, we lost the personal relationship of what we thought was a family owned business. Since we, too, own a small business, we totally understand policies are necessary but also that policies can be excepted on occasion of friendships and repeat customers. YOU NEED TO BE MORE COMPASSIONATE AND UNDERSTANDING AND DEFINITELY NEED A POLICY CHANGE TO REFLECT WHAT A “FAMILY”CAMPGROUND SHOULD BE. We will not be back and will never recommend Mountain River...

This review was written in October of 2023, and never was approved. This is now July, 2025 and we just returned from another trip after the complete destruction of MRFC by Hurricane Helene. The campground is rebuilding and on its way back. We had a wonderful trip and will be back. The summer mountain temperatures were such a welcome relief. We even had campfires at night in July! The owners, Suzanne and Jared, Kim and Mike are great people. I'd highly recommend staying here and supporting them as they rebuild their beautiful home. October, 2023 MRFC was the prettiest campground! The fall colors were gorgeous. The stream and pond sites were gorgeous, even at night! The staff leads you to your site, and even guides you as you back into the site, saving lots of marriages! The picnic tables and playground looked brand new. The bathhouses were clean, the grounds were immaculate. There were plenty of hammocks, rocking chairs, and gliders to enjoy the surroundings. We've made reservations to come back next year!

Great campground with even greater owners. This campground was completely destroyed by a hurricane as most know. I stayed here before that and I recently stayed after it and it looks alot like it did already. The owners have worked non stop to get it back together and in just 9 months I could not believe how much they have accomplished. The campground looks great. The sites have full hook ups. Grass and gravel everywhere so little to no mud anywhere. If you are hesitant to visit because you are worried about current conditions, trust me this place looks better now than alot of campgrounds that have not had major damage. The area around the campground is improving daily as well and most roads are in great shape to travel on. I love Mountain River and looking forward to returning again in October.
