Sadly will never return This is our third time camping at Eagle Cliff over the last 8 years, and we will never go back. You will be greeted by aggressive signage about their 5mph rule which continues throughout the campground. Ironically, the campground staff fly around on the golf carts much faster than the posted 5mph. Most of the sites are a good size, however you are not allowed to use a mat at the site (which is odd because most RV/trailer campers use mats). We didn’t care much and understood more once we saw the nice grass. We camped with friends who have an ice house. They were told “ice houses always cause problems” (not in a joking way). We got sites next to each other and wanted to face them, but were told that isn’t allowed because they don’t want “awning to awning” (never heard of this before). Their door faces the opposite way, so they were allowed to “let it slide” for this time. If you’re planning to camp with friends, definitely stay elsewhere. Music at your site must be turned off at 10pm, but the campground DJ was going well past that time and it was very loud. We have 2 dogs that come camping all the time. We have a collar system for them that keeps them at our site. A woman came by on a golf cart and rudely said “all dogs must be on a leash” without greeting or introduction. When I tried to explain the collar system, she cut me off and said “it doesn’t matter.” Totally fine if that’s the rule, but so unnecessary to be rude about it. My friend and I went to the office to get ice and both people working just stared and said nothing to us, then rudely told us you can’t purchase ice with a credit card. On the way out, two campers were blocking the road. A staff member came by and I asked where the people were that were parked there because it was causing a backup of campers wanting to leave. I was told, “you can go yell at them if you want. We’ve put up with a lot this weekend.” He was apologetic, but wouldn’t do anything about the situation and we were stuck there for a while. Seems like the staff loves enforcing all the rules, so it was shocking they wouldn’t ask someone to move who was clearly creating a problem. Of the 6 staff members we interacted with during our stay, 4 of them were incredibly rude and unwelcoming. I am sad the customer service here is so bad (seeing other reviews confirm this) because I loved coming here. We’ll stay elsewhere when we...
Read moreWould recommend but there is a couple items to be aware of.
Cliff notes: This is a beautiful campground thats clean and well kept. There is a plethera of activities available to keep you entertained. The camping is in an open environment and voices travel. (On a bad weekend you may have trouble sleeping)
Full review:
Campground: There are plenty of sites for tenting along the river. There are two main bathrooms that are kept clean. They have a handful of activities such as: kayaking, volleyball nets, corn hole, a couple good swimming holes, and tubing. The campsites are tucked together pretty close and are fairly open. If you have a neighbor that likes to stay up late and your a light sleeper it may be difficult to get a full nights sleep. The campground says quiet hours are at 11, but some guests dont seem to care or aren't aware of how their voices travel.
The activities: As mentioned above there are a plethora of activities that can be done here. The root river provides great opportunities to float in a kayak or tube, seems to have plenty of fishing action for spinning rods or fly fishing in the area, and has a couple swimming holes. There are also a couple locations to play volleyball and there are a few presetup cornhole games available to guests. The office also has other game options available for kids.
Ownership: This a family owned campground and many of its qualities. The campground really feels like the family tries to provide a fairly consistent experience with the guests interest in mind. It also apears they have different styles of management within the office.
Be mindful of: There are plenty of signs that tell you to go slow and this IS inforced. Quiet hours start at 11pm and go until 7am. Because of the openness at the campground sound travels easily and can be disruptful. You may FIRMLY be asked to be quiet if not compliant.
So laugh, move around, share fun stories, listen to music, have a great time, and dont forget the rules are just in place to give everyone a chance at having...
Read moreRecently had a 5-day stay in a tent site. Arrived a bit earlier than check in time (didn't realize until after we were all set up.. oops!)
Very well kept property. No plumbing by our sites, but port-a-pots are on site. Easily the cleanest I've ever used.
Great community and vibe throughout our stay, a group of visitors put together a massive kick-ball game, and all were welcomed to play! My kiddos had a BLAST! Friday night there was a DJ playing and again, we had a blast listening to music and dancing.
All the staff were friendly and very approachable. They also monitor the grounds to keep things clean and make sure everyone is enjoying their stay. Lots of open space, and more than enough room between tent sites.
One downer we did find is that you do need to pay for your showers. Personally, I didn't mind warming water on the fire to freshen up with (I mean common.. we're camping! 😆)
We were able to go tubing once (rain later in our stay raises the waters to unsafe tubing levels) and it was a decent ride. Would have liked it to have lasted a bit longer myself, but with our younger 2 kiddos, it was probably for the best (roughly 1.5/2 hours - but again the water was moving a little faster than usual).
We visited the town of Lanesboro and walked through some of the shops. Lots of fun things to see! Also ate at Home Sweet Home and had icecream at Another Time Ice Cream (both recommended stops!)
Overall a great trip and will for sure be going back! Thank you, Eagle Cliff, for...
