While East Bay Campground boasts a stunning location on Devil’s Lake, the owners’ shocking disregard for guest concerns and lack of basic hospitality make this a place to avoid. Our experience was a nightmare due to the owner's negligence, resulting in serious damage to our property that they refused to apologize for or rectify.
Upon arrival, we noticed a large tree limb hanging over our camper. We immediately reported it, concerned that it could fall and cause damage. The office reassured us, but no one came to address it. That night, the limb fell and punctured a hole in our roof. When we informed the owner, Bill, his response was nothing short of appalling. Instead of offering any help, showing concern, or even apologizing, he dismissed us, repeatedly telling us to "just patch it up" and actively discouraging us from filing a claim. It took three days of persistence to obtain the necessary insurance information—still with no apology or acknowledgment of their responsibility. Another reviewer had a similar experience, reporting, "we sustained major damage to our roof from trees. When I reported this to the office, they were 'sorry' but offered nothing else" (RV Life Review).
Bill’s behavior reflected a complete lack of concern, remorse, or responsibility, which was deeply disturbing, especially considering the damage could have been easily prevented. This was more than just bad customer service—it was an utter failure to demonstrate even the most basic principles of hospitality or human decency.
The neglect extended beyond this incident. The shower curtains in every bathroom were 2-3 inches too narrow, leaving a gap that exposes anyone showering. The fire ring grill was bent to the point of unusable. When we rented a boat and reported the anchor rope was frayed and unusable, they promised it would be replaced. But, just like with the tree limb, nothing was done.
If you stay here, be prepared to have excellent insurance and no expectations of any help, because the owners clearly don’t care. Bill and Val only seem to offer hospitality to guests who require nothing from them. Based on our experience, they will treat you like a nuisance the moment you raise a concern.
For your peace of mind, I recommend finding another campground. The beautiful views are simply not worth enduring owners who show no responsibility for their guests...
Read moreWe were travelling with another couple headed home from a trip to Glacier and they called ahead and reserved two campsites for two nights each at Eastbay. They requested and were told the sites had full hook-ups and were pull-throughs. Upon reaching Eastbay we found out the last mile in to the campground was a very rough gravel road. Both of us had our motorcycles with from our trip and had hoped to spend the next day riding in the area. After seeing the road and how rough it was we decided that wouldn't work. We checked in at the office which is very nice and has a well stocked store with bait and tackle. When we drove down to our sites we found out neither was a pull-through and there was no sewer hook-up. I guess "full" hook-ups mean different things to different campgrounds. The location of the campground is beautiful and we had a nice view of the lake. The owners are definitely spending some money making the event center and marina great facilities. They need to put a little more focus on the campsites. Our "pad" was a greatly undersized patch of gravel as was our travelling companions. We have a 36 foot motorhome and our friends a 22 foot toyhauler. We got them level but it took some boards and some jockeying. The sites themselves are nice sized with good grass, large picnic tables and handy garbage cans. Despite a nice breeze off of the lake the area was inundated with flies and gnats. We ate outside and they were all over the food and us. It was a little unpleasant and kind of forced us inside for the evening. Because the weather forecast was hinting at strong to severe thunderstorms the next night we decided to run for home the next day. We inquired about a refund for the unused day and were told by the owner "let's wait and see what the weather is like tomorrow." That meant no refund. Oh well, it was only thirty dollars. The owner told us he is a town supervisor and the road will unfortunately probably be gravel for a long time to come. The next morning when we left around 9 AM the road had been graded which greatly improved the trip out. We learned some lessons on what questions to ask in the future when booking unknown campgrounds. If they read this review we hope they learn some things to tell...
Read moreHad reservations for 3 cabins and reserved a boat for two days. Was told their cabins could sleep 4 people. Technically they could sleep 4 people but that was about it. Literally enough room for 2 double beds and a corner desk. Could barely fit our luggage of two suitcases in the room. Had to step over them or turn side ways to get to the bathroom. There is more room at the Super 8 in town. The cabins are attached to one other cabin so noise travels between cabins pretty easily. Needless to say there was a reason their cabins were still available to rent 1 week before Labor Day weekend.
Once we got over the size of the cabins, we settled in for the night and wanted to get an early start of fishing @ 7 AM. Ended up going to Casino that night but still ready by 7 AM. Went to pick up my reserved boat and they said they weren't going to put in the boats yet. O...K.... but I had it reserved and you want to charge me a full day for the boat? Come back around 11 AM and we will see if they are in. Didn't want to waste the day so we drove around the lakes and did shore fishing in the meantime. Needless to say, we didn't get back by 11 AM so we opted not to rent the boat that day. Didn't see any value at that point. The next day, pretty much the same experience as the day before with the boat.
Needless to say, we will never visit Eastbay again. They don't fulfill their promises, and the guy owner acted pompous and uppidty towards us. We drove 6 hours and didn't want to pull a boat that far, so we thought it would be better to rent one. Big mistake there. Next time I will stay at the Super 8 in town before returning to Eastbay. Eastbay ruined our entire...
