My wife and I had finally gotten a wknd alone for the first time in ten yrs (We have a son, without a trusting sitter until now). Wer started by going to Koomer Ridge Campground. Granted we didn't get there till midnight and the gentlemen said no generators past 11p.m. No problem if you didn't need power. So the next day we decided after not having power all night in our camper that we'd just go to The Red River Gorge Campground. And let me just say upon arriving it was like a scene out of a movie. There was so much room. They (Tim & Trish the owners) were like come on in its raining. As they greeted us Tim asked if we needed anything to drink or if we needed anything while we were here no matter what time it was to either call and they'll bring it to us. We were not used to hospitality like this. That's the kind of hospitality one would only experience either in Mayberry or 20 yrs ago. The kindness alone would make anyone wantto come back. They do not have running water or electric yet. They are however getting both this yr. Which will be nice. The key thing here is that when wer needed elasticity they (Tim & Trish) said we could run our generator all night if we needed to. With a camper and already having water it would seem electricity would then only make sense. I mean what's the point of having a camper if you can't use the amenities, right. So with all this being said. How could you not give such a BEAUTIFUL place anything but a 5 STAR rating. I think I failed to mention. They do have portalets and as a contrsuction worker who has no choice but to use them. These portal's were so neat and clean and didn't stink. They're very well maintained. Thank you for a great weekend RED RIVER GORGE! We will see you In labor day wknd...
Read moreMy best friend and I stayed here on the first night of our week-long road trip — and it was not only our first night of the trip, but our first time camping ever. We booked it super last-minute, but from the moment we arrived, we were met with kindness and warmth from the people running it.
The campground is tucked away in a beautifully remote area, and the peacefulness was unlike anything we’re used to (we're from the city!). That night, we were the only campers there, and they set us up at their personal favorite spot — right next to a gentle creek. The sound of the water mixed with the nighttime calls of wildlife was so calming, it literally lulled us to sleep.
What made it even more unforgettable was the tree line surrounding our site — it lit up with fireflies after sunset and honestly felt like something out of a movie. We felt so safe, so welcomed, and completely taken care of. They even made sure we knew they were around to help with anything we needed.
This campground ended up being one of the best places we stayed all week. It made our first night of camping feel magical — peaceful, beautiful, and full of kind people. We’d absolutely come back again.

Read moreThis is our favorite camp site when visiting Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge area. The property is beautiful and clean. The owners are extremely friendly. The port - a - pots are cleaner than most restaurants. No electricity/water hook ups, but if primitive camping in a breathtaking place is your thing, come visit this place. Most sites have a bench and fire pit. They will sell you wood, which comes with kindling and some newspaper, and actually bring it to your site. Every site has its own name and personality. It is tucked in right along side Red River and they have a couple fishing holes to enjoy. We, my wife, three children (9,7,5) and myself, always race to the lake to get the morning bite. I would recommend this site above any other that we have we been to. It is an actual experience, compared to the cookie cutter sites that most are used to. We feel as safe as we do at home here, as if family is looking out for us. Hint: Black and Blue Buzz Bait in the evening sun, white top water in the morning. Please pitch them back so we can all...
