We did both the Spa and spent the night in the Barrel House. The spa was awesome, it was clean, beautiful, romantic and lovely. You get 3 hours and it includes water, tea, hammocks, yoga mats and tools, infrared sauna, showers with shampoo, body wash and conditioner, large towels, robes (standard size L not sure if they carry plus size), optional massage table to massage each other with oil and also gua sha tools, keep in mind the hammocks and whatnot are on the second floor up a short wooden ladder/stairs. We had a spa for two so it included two hot water baths with one cold plunge in the third bath. They had music playing, water coming down the roof and other cool features that made it relaxing and lovely. It is right by the main cabin and hang out areas so a short walk from the parking.
Barrel House: Our room was great! It sleeps 4 in two queen beds and had two hanging egg chairs, glass water cups with a full water dispenser, a second floor accessible by a ladder/steps which had poufs, table, record player with tons of vintage records, and books. This room has air conditioner which worked great and a wood fired stove for when it is cold. It was a short walk to the restrooms/showers/kitchen area. Nearby was also a BBQ area, “dark web” hangout area, outdoor hammocks and a couple other glamping tent rooms. Sadly it was too damp from the rain to check out the dark web for our taste.
Facilities: BIG note - they use composting toilets which means no water and no flushing. When you sit down it opens up the solid waste container back section, liquid waste goes down the front drain so it’s separated - once you stand up it closes again. So everyone has to sit regardless - if someone has some foul smelling waste the scent will linger more is the main downside but it is cool and good for the earth overall. There is a toilet near the spa and there are two toilets and two showers (with hot water and amenities) near the barrel house and accompanying rooms. Near this was a sink with soap and mirror and then kitchen area with another sink and mirror and soap. Towels are in your rooms! No towels or paper towels were in the cleaning area.
Parking: one car spot per room is assigned and there are some extra guest parking spots if you come for just the spa or what not.
Check in is not required for the rooms so you can just show up after the check-in time at your room. It appeared there was no required check out either?
It was quiet, pretty, peaceful when we were there. Only one other couple was staying the night I think but this was a Tuesday in September so we did not hear them or anything in their tent.
Location: outside of Stanton, KY which is a full small town with restaurants, coffee shop, gas station, motel, etc. This is maybe 40 mins from Lexington? Lots of hiking trails, ATV, and whatnot around.
For fun: they do weddings and events here and the bar can be opened for that. They had a stage and whatnot. Very cute.
Vibes: hipster, hippie, peaceful, earthy, compassion, community, positive, loving, connect with the earth,...
Read moreCame back for the Thermal Spa and it exceeded all expectations! Josh’s attention to detail is unmatched and down right impeccable. It is literally otherworldly. It feels like you’re on a tropical island somewhere in the most luxurious spa, but tucked away in the beautiful hills of Red River Gorge. Do yourself a favor and indulge in this absolute sanctuary. Perfect for solo adventures, girl getaway, date night or a honeymoon! My mom and I left on cloud nine and so incredibly relaxed. Needless to say, we did not want to leave. Can’t wait to go back in a few weeks! Hands down one of my favorite places on the planet.
Original review: Stumbled upon this absolute gem in early August. Booked a shared room for the first time and admittedly I was a bit nervous but Josh was the most hospitable and welcoming host! He greeted us with a smile and sat to chat with us for a bit and gave us a bit of history on how he ended up in Red River Gorge, what all he has done with his property and what he is planning to do. He also shared his plans of his thermal spa and sure enough in less than a month it was up a running. Quite impressive!
The main cabin is very well kept and decorated very tastfully. Tons of awesome little touches including lots of plants and a record player with a vast selection of music to enjoy. Everything was clean and organized. He then showed us out to the backyard and my mind was absolutely blown! He has created such a magical and peaceful space. A little slice of heaven in the hills of Kentucky. I've already booked another trip and cannot wait to experience his new thermal spa. He has the perfect setup for small retreats or weddings and I cannot recommend this place enough! Since I've been home I don't think I've stopped talking about The Hive at High Rock. Do yourself a favor and book a stay & spa treatment here. Promise you will...
Read moreMy stay at The Hive Glamping was absolutely incredible! We stayed at The Barrel House, and everything was just perfect. As someone who’s not typically into camping, this experience was a game-changer. The Barrel House was clean, cozy, and designed with peace and relaxation in mind. Everything was thoughtfully curated, from the little hangout spots like the Dark Web, swing and fire pit areas to the useful decor like blankets, towels, and lanterns. The proximity to the restrooms was also convenient, especially for those who might worry about late-night trips.
The vibe of being one with nature is truly special here. The attention to detail is remarkable, and it created such a serene and rejuvenating atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment!
We also did the Thermal Spa experience at 3 PM on a hotter afternoon, and it exceeded my expectations. Despite the warm weather, the hot bath was the perfect temperature and felt amazing. The sound of the water hitting down like rain was incredibly soothing. I also tried the sauna and the cold plunge, which were both fantastic. We added on the massage table experience—HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It was pure relaxation with sage burning, calming music, and nature sounds surrounding us. The three hours flew by way too fast!
Overall, I truly recommend The Hive Glamping and Thermal Spa. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature in a luxurious setting. Can’t wait to return! Thank you Josh...
