Booked online - the total I was given at the time had an additional unexpected 4% added at the hotel at check-in (for using a credit or debit card). That didn't start the stay well.||The exterior of the property is in pretty decent shape - though the street entrance isn't particularly well-marked for late-night entry.||Also - later in the evening check-in requires the use of a little window in the foyer to the lobby.||PLEASE NOTE - NO ELEVATOR! If you have physical disabilities - be sure to request a 1st floor room.||After toting my bag and hanging clothes up the stairs and finding my room (207), I entered and found a fairly clean room. It smelled strangely fresh with no hint of must or smoke (I have found that many hotel rooms, even no-smoking, still have odors).||It appears there has been some effort to update the rooms. The bed was quite firm, but not uncomfortable (for me). The sheets were clean (I carry a UV/black light when I travel!)||There were a few electrical outlets in the room that did not work. But the biggest issue was that the A/C-Heat unit was inoperable. Thankfully - the temperatures and humidity remained comfortable, so I tolerated the issue.||Another point of concern - the bathroom floor. It appears there had been some kind of water issue at some point - floor tiles between door and toilet had shifted and were quite uneven - with missing ground - and presented a somewhat sharp corner for tender feet.||Also - the breakfast area at this hotel: they don't have breakfast. There is an old paper sign on the class door that says "no breakfast due to COVID, please to understand". in reality - they are now using that area for a storage room... If you want breakfast - try the Piggly Wiggly grocery store across the street - they have an ok and inexpensive breakfast. ||Overall - much better than sleeping in my truck while traveling, Not many options anywhere around Star...
Read moreWORST STAY EVER! I have stayed here several times this year and this was the worst. Most of the time it has been just OK. AC is cold, sheets are clean, water is hot, price is low, bed is hard, pillows are flat. This time was a different story. They use a bio-deodorizer or something that is supposed to kill odors, but the odor killer was almost overpowering. This morning, when I went to make a pot of coffee in the room, I found the pot reservoir full with a large bag of coffee floating in it - very nasty. I tried cleaning out the coffee pot but it was just too messy and gross so I quit and walked down to the breakfast area to get a cup of coffee. Mind you that we were the only guest in the hotel last night. If there was another guest they did not have a car in parking lot. This was a Sunday morning and we had slept in until 8:30am. I kindly asked the lady if they could keep the breakfast area open for a few minutes longer so we could get showered and down to breakfast. She looked at me like I was crazy and said there is a sign on the door that said breakfast is from 6-9 and no it would not stay open any longer. Not that it would have mattered as the waffle iron was broken and that is the only hot food available. The waffle mix is watered down as well. They have cold, hard bagels and a toaster. There was only enough juice for one cup of apple juice. My mom lives about a one minute drive from this facility. Needless to say, I will make a 30 minute drive to Monticello to stay at the Hampton for twice the price before I stay here again. The only nice person at this place is the...
Read moreHorribly dirty. Lots of dead bugs all over the floors, which means the room was not really cleaned before we checked in. The bedding seemed clean though. There was a stuffed bear that lay in the hallway for two days, the same dead crickets were still in the floor beside the ice machine. They literally do not clean this place. Upon checking in I was required to pay a $50 deposit, I guess they were worried that someone was going to steal a towel or something. Then when I checked in they asked how many people would be in the room and charged me extra because I added one person, yet the room would sleep 4 people. The toilet was stopped up and the air quit working so they moved us to another room. The one girl who worked the night shift was very sweet and helpful but the people who own it and seem to live there (or perhaps they may have family members living and working there) were not friendly or welcoming. Seems like they distrust everyone. If you have my credit card on file why would I need to pay $50 deposit? If there was another hotel in town this one would go out...
