I have stayed at this particular hotel for decades. It was the hotel at which I spent my wedding night. Back then, it was a very nice facility. At a glance, it's still pretty nice. However, you don't have to look very closely to notice issues. If you look closely, it's very sad and disappointing indeed.
General cleaning. The basics are taken care of in the rooms, but some of the most basic details are missed at every juncture. There was a solitary Cheetoh in the corner of our room, under the desk, about six inches from either wall. Clearly if someone had vacuumed, they most certainly did not hit every area of the carpet, or even LOOKED at every area.
The shower curtain rod has rust on the bottom, which is easily wiped down during a general cleaning of the bathroom. Condensation forms on the rod, and those drips catch dust, and over time, cause discoloration. This is a small detail, but when added to the snack foods lying on the carpet, clearly the rooms are not being deep cleaned EVER.
General maintenance. The room doors are very heavy as you would expect, but the construction of the hotel was apparently not so robust - the walls shake when the doors close, and depending on which room you get, the door may not latch at all without some fussing. It's over 20 years since the thing was built, so we expect some wear, but the walls themselves were constructed too cheaply, and it's really showing.
Sinks and other bathroom fixtures need the caulk maintained (most likely needs ripped out and redone) The faucets themselves are a crap shoot as to whether the fixture will work or come apart when you try to operate them. Stools for the most part are okay, but may rock from being removed for maintenance and not having been remounted properly. Again, this place was very nice years ago. It's sad to see the lack of skilled maintenance.
On the 'porch' outside, there were railings that were attached to posts that created a sort of cordoned off patio area. Those railings were removed at some point. The screw/nail holes were never filled and the posts were never painted, so the unpainted area shows overtly where the railings were removed. Quite an eyesore given this is the first impression anyone sees of the building. This particular feature is a surprise every new year when we visit, only to find that no attention has been paid to this issue through multiple visits over multiple years.
On this particular visit, the elevator AND the hot tub were both out of order. The pool itself was always tiny, but was a welcome respite and a wonderful, worthwhile feature for years, and the hot tub area as well. These items being broken makes me wonder if they will be added to the list of things that are still broken during our visit next year.
The television does not automatically default to an input that works - there is some sort of cable/satellite box attached, but one has to manually scroll through the inputs from the front panel of the TV to get an input that works... the remote does not control anything except power, channel, and volume. This is a small detail, but for those less technically proficient, it would require a visit from staff. I called the front desk to report the issue, and they stated they'd come and fix it. Once I discovered it was something they knew about, I found the front panel controls and fixed it myself. I mistakenly thought it was a maintenance issue they would want reported. No, just like the other things, it appears that maintaining this property is simply not something we are doing any longer.
Overall, the stay was still without incident. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The linens were clean and fresh, and plenty of pillows were on site. The AC did it's job as did the fridge.
It's just hard to spend this kind of money in this sort of rural town, to be greeted with this sort of facility... especially given the history I have...
Read moreWe have stayed at Country Inn and Suites in Stockton, IL many times in the past, and it has always been a delightful experience. Our stay this past weekend in Room #110 was way below par. No soft water. The water was extremely hard and very difficult to use. We’ve always enjoyed conditioned water at this CIS. No snacks in the vending machine. The only product in the vending machine was “All” detergent. No pads or pens in the room. Lavatory faucet was not fastened down and leaned to the left. When I asked the desk clerk about someone from maintenance looking at it, I was told they didn’t have a maintenance person. The desk clerk came to our room and examined the faucet. He said he’d have to think about it for a while, and never came back. The faucet handle in the tub/shower came off in my hand. It wasn’t as clean as we expected. Stopper in sink did not hold water. No place to hang towels. When you only offer housekeeping every third day, you need a place to hang used towels. The toilet did not flush appropriately. You had to hold the handle down to get a complete flush. We stayed for two nights. We were locked out of our room on the second day. We have visited this area many times in the past. We have many family members and friends living here and have always enjoyed this CIS. This visit was very disappointing and expensive $257 and not worth the price we were charged. I hope it improves soon as poor customer service will lead to its changing to another lower grade motel...
Read moreI don!t even know where to start! We reserved 4 rooms for 2 nights for our family wedding so checked in around 8:30 pm Friday night. That was the first and LAST time we saw anyone at the front desk the entire time we were at the hotel! A phone on the counter said to dial 0 for “operator” if we needed assistance but upon picking it up, you find the phone is dead! Almost everything at this place is “out of order” - elevator, wall clocks, vending machine, soda/water machine, and ice machine. As for our rooms - a yucky, moldy smell welcomed us when we opened the door along with a strong smell of dead cigarette smoke. The matresses were lumpy at best and the pillows basically nonexistent. The outside area was a joke - the grass had grown so tall it was starting to “ head out”! It looked as though they had planted flowers in the spring, but now they were struggling to grow because of all the weeds. Shutters had fallen off and were laying on the ground and several window screens ripped and torn. Now as for breakfast - yikes, the eggs tasted like water and the sausages were rubbery. The Fruit Loops were extremely stale, but of course I couldn’t report it to them because no one was ever at the breakfast area! Definitely not a good experience and a place I will never...
