Thank you for asking for us to share our thoughts regarding our stay.
We have stayed at your location a number of times and have enjoyed our previous stays.
The issues we had this trip:
Welcome Desk
The hotel was aware of three adults staying in the room for weeks. However, there were only towels for two guests provided.
There was bedding for the pull-out couch, but no pillows. The person at the desk was annoyed when I asked for the additional towels and two pillows. He asked me to check back with him after our return from dinner.
When I returned from dinner, he had not gathered the requested items and had to go into the “back” to get them.
Upon returning from the “back” he told me that there was only one pillow available, but he would check on the other floors.
He knocked on the room door a short time later, and declared that there were no pillows available, on any floor.
So, in a hotel that describes the choices of pillows in its brochure, in a hotel of this size, there was not even one pillow available.
Safety
At one point during our stay, we noticed a large puddle in front of the elevator, most probably from a guest that was dripping from the pool.
We mentioned that there was a puddle on the floor, and we were concerned regarding safety/slip and fall.
The attendant at the desk scoffed at the report and made no effort to correct the spill.
One of our party went to the pool area and grabbed a towel and placed it over the puddle.
The attendant did not move from behind the desk as we walked past him to the exit door.
Wi-Fi
What a joke
We had a total of 5 devices which could have connected to Wi-Fi and not one of them could connect successfully.
We did call the number that was provided in the room, but the other password that they provided also allowed access to the hotel connection to Wi-Fi, but the devices were unable to use the Wi-Fi, the connection failed every time.
Again, this was one of the services that was featured in the advertisement for this facility.
Breakfast
The counter near the dispenser for the waffle batter was a mess. The batter and syrup were spilled and swirled all over the counter.
There were no instructions as to how to use the waffle irons. These are hot and an obvious burn danger.
It was a flurry of guest trying to help guest to prepare the waffles.
The second morning, one of the waffle makers had a timer/digital countdown that wasn’t working. We mentioned it to the staff member, and she huffed and tried it herself. And then proclaimed, “it must be faulty”.
Maybe she should have unplugged the faulty waffle maker, out of an “abundance of caution” until it could be repaired.
The trip was not the restful weekend that we had planned, and had always enjoyed at this location in the past.
Please consider retraining your staff in...
Well kept property, quiet location, set back from the road surrounded with trees. Staff was efficient and polite. Room and common areas were very clean; generous size, nicely decorated room; towels, mattress and selection of pillows were nice. Management did a great job of thinking of the details that make a hotel more comfortable and relaxing for guests.
Breakfast was better than average, but with just a small selection of items. The menu was the same on both days: juice, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, hot waffles, great apples (looked local to me), whole wheat bread, bagels, muffins, yoghurt, coffee/tea--in a spacious dining room.
Conventional wood hangers in the closet. A safe for valuables. Excellent TV, large, great selection of channels, good remote. Larger than average refrigerator, microwave; good room lighting. Good desk chair. The easy chair could use some new upholstery--clean, but the arms were getting frayed. Plenty of outlets at counter height, on desk and night tables, for device chargers. Strong, consistent WIFI with decent speed. Our devices stayed connected during our entire stay, without the need to log in again. Consistent, quiet climate control. Comforter/blanket was too warm--better suited for a very cold room in winter. Should have a four season one instead.
We were given what turned out to be an accessible room (we did not need one). The counter area around the sink was OK, a bit small, but that might be due to the accessible features in this bathroom. Regular rooms might differ. For hanging towels there were only small hooks. I would prefer towel bars or racks. The windows were sealed shut, and cannot be opened. We prefer the option of getting some outside fresh air for ventilation.
Three minute walk to eateries: Cracker Barrel (offered some very tasty, healthy choices--grilled chicken, trout, salad, veggies), Wendy's and Dunkin. Motel has a small convenience vending/mart area with basics like bottled cold drinks and snacks.
The parking lot was excellent and well lit. Spaces were large and nicely separated, and there were many of them, including room to park larger vehicles like RVs and trucks. No roadside sign! Look for the entrance between Cracker Barrel and a...
Read moreThe hotel was great! We used it for our wedding room block, and they were able to accommodate the amount of rooms we requested so we didn’t have to coordinate our guests at multiple hotels. My husband and I, as well as our families and wedding party, were all able to check in early which was a nice surprise! The staff was able to distribute our gift bags, which was a very helpful task. Breakfast was good - grateful to have a hotel with an included hot breakfast - and the staff during breakfast was so cheerful and tidy! The pumpkin waffle batter was delicious! And the bar was awesome! Love the huge variety of offerings! Everyone was so happy the bar inside the hotel was open late! Perfect to be able to shuttle back to the hotel from the wedding venue, quick change of outfit, and then continue the party through the night! A bunch of our guests took advantage of that as a gathering place on both Friday and Saturday nights (we even closed down the bar Sat night after the wedding, so big thanks for staying open late! Meant a lot to us!)
The suites were the perfect option for our wedding day prep, too! Great size! Awesome little kitchen counter to set up the brunch snacks we brought. Tons of outlets and lighting throughout. Great mirrors as well, so multiple people could be getting ready and touching up at the same time. And honestly, having the bedroom separate in the suite was a great bonus - hanging out with friends in a space with the small dining table and couches... so much more practical than everyone flopped on the bed. Mattress was very comfortable, but those pillows... a bunch of us agreed - those pillows are weird. Small awkward squares, and they just disappear to nothing when you lay on them. Just a small critique haha
Parlin was wonderful to work with through all of our planning! She was incredibly organized, thorough and prompt with all of her communications, and even followed up after our wedding! We are incredibly happy with our entire experience with Comfort Inn Sturbridge and would highly recommend for any weddings...
