My husband and I were attending a wedding over Labor Day weekend and we chose to stay at the lovely Meadowbrook Farm B&B. The location was perfect as it was halfway between Suffolk where the wedding was and Carrollton where family members live and we would be visiting. But let me get to the good stuff... Upon our arrival we were greeted by our hosts, Debra and Allen, and we immediately felt welcomed. As we checked in we were able to choose when we would like to have breakfast each day. We appreciated being able to choose as we like to be up for a few hours before eating whereas others like to eat shortly after getting up. Having the choice helped us keep more to our routine. Speaking of breakfast I don't believe I have the words to express how delicious everything was. I mean seriously delicious! Each day we savored various biscuits and muffins with homemade Apple Pear Butter and Fig Preserves; fruit cups; main entrees that were totally different and equally tasty each day; and to top it all off we had dessert. Dessert for breakfast - awesome! Debra was the genius in the kitchen (she even shared some of her recipes with us) and Allen was an amazing waiter with some great stories. Our coffee cups never ran dry! Another thing we appreciated was that much of the food we ate was grown right there at the farm. Talk about farm to table! You just can't beat it. Backing up to the day we arrived... after getting settled in we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine, cheese and crackers and some cookies. It was a welcomed treat. We took them to the front porch where we enjoyed the goodies and while taking in the view and the peacefulness of the property. Afterwards we wandered the property for a little exercise. As mentioned earlier, we were attending a wedding and visiting with family that we hadn't seen in 15 years or so. We had no idea what our schedule would be or how late we would be coming in but that was no problem. We were free to come and go which was a relief and allowed us the freedom to thoroughly enjoy catching up with everyone. That being said, we didn't have much time to check out local places of interest but there are brochures of various places available at the B&B and the hosts are happy to recommend places as well. The house itself is just beautiful and chock full of antiques. We stayed in the Victorian Rose room which offered a comfy queen bed, two chairs and a TV. We slept very well each night. If we ever get back to Virginia we'll definitely be booking Meadowbrook Farm B&B for the duration...
Read moreCan not rave enough about about the Bryant’s and this serene country getaway. The property is beautiful and the history contagious. Debbie and Alan offer true Southern Hospitality, from the homey touches in the room to the truly made with love country breakfast in the morning. If you are looking for unique surroundings and great conversation this is the place. Enjoy the solitude of the grounds and we loved our little porch off the side house. The 1800 original fireplace gave the room a truly special feel and the homemade cookies, wine & cheese and cracker reception added a touch of luxury that was palpable. You can truly feel that the Bryant’s care about your experience and have a passion for what they do. Can’t wait to come back to...
Read moreMy wife and I have been staying in B & Bs for about 8 years. This one had the best B & B breakfast we have ever had !!!! We could not eat all that was brought to us. Fruit salad, potato cakes, Amish, preservative free, bacon, sweet potato biscuits, a banana nut muffin, and THEN they brought us desert !!!! Homemade peach cobbler. We stayed in one of the rooms in the old out kitchen. The original cooking fireplace was in there. At six PM we were brought wine and crackers. We had our own covered patio , which we ate our supper on, as we watched the bluebirds, dove, and the starlings, cavort, as the sun went down. We were given a , still warm, homemade cookie upon check-in. And priced VERY reasonable for all these amenities. We...
