The owners of Baylor Beach Park made disabled guest sit outside gate in the heat in their car. We arrived after 5pm to take our kids for a swim (ages 4, 7 and 9). The cost was going to be $30 for about an hour! I explained that I am disabled and just wanted to watch, but they got angry and said I could not. We begged and pleaded with the lady, (she said she was one of the owners), to allow me to watch without paying for swimming, but she went into a tirade about how this was their livelihood and how hard she works. She made me sit outside the gate in the 100 degree car. In addition, our boy just turned 4, but no leniency was given to us... full day adult rate for him, too! She even ran out into the "temporary parking area" to scream, he's not 3, no way he's 3 years old. We were treated so badly we searched to see if this has happened to other guests, but what we found was much worse. Many families ended up infected with very dangerous bacteria after swimming at Baylor Beach Park. One of the things the owner suggested (yelled) was why don't we try going to Clay's Park or somewhere else. Well, a properly maintained pool would certainly give us some peace of mind when it comes to the children's safety... AND... Tuscora Park Pool is only $2 and they allow guests not swimming free admission. Commons Pool in Bolivar is $4 and they also don't charge if you're not swimming. So, go somewhere else, the kids will have just as much fun, they will be safer and you'll save enough money to take them to...
Read moreGreat place to stay when visiting the local attractions. But, you don't have to leave the campground to find fun things to do. They have a small water park, paddle boats and water bikes, a mini golf course and a short walking trail. There a variety of sites, some are quite short, others almost a 100 ft long, so be mindful of that when choosing a site. The sites are narrow strips of gravel, so you will, most likely, be stepping out onto grass and they don't allow mats. This wasn't a problem, though. The quiet hours are listed as 10pm to 9am, but they also have a sign posted saying 11pm to 9am. Not really a problem, but misleading. Especially when they have busloads of children arriving as early as 8:30, or earlier. Another issue is they don't (I'm actually not sure they really can) enforce the no alcohol policy. I saw beer bottle and cartons quite a few times. It was never really loud or unruly, but there were a few parties. They have a nice bathhouse, that is shared with their water park, which makes it hard to keep up with. I consistently found piles of sand in the sinks and wet toilet seats. Also, they use solar for hot water, so if you like to shower in the morning, don't expect the hot water, if any, to last. All-in-all, though, I would definitely stay here again. The park is very clean and they have an Amish family that comes in about 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Their baked goods...
Read moreWe stayed here this week during a trip from North Carolina to Michigan. It’s a charming, somewhat vintage-style campground with a swimming area that our kids really enjoyed. The water slides and other amenities gave off strong 1980s vibes, which we actually loved—it felt like stepping back into the kind of place we might have visited as kids ourselves.
The campground was pleasant and generally well maintained. One heads-up: bring bug spray! The gnats, flies, and mosquitoes were intense—much worse than what we’re used to down South. Not sure if it’s just this park or Ohio in general, but the bugs were definitely noticeable.
We also really enjoyed the mini golf—it was a fun, simple course that the whole family could get into. It ended up being one of the highlights of our stay, especially for the kids.
My only suggestion for the owners would be to consider a more all-inclusive pricing structure instead of the current à la carte setup. Right now, you pay per person, and extras like mini golf and bumper boats cost more. A single price that covers access to all amenities—whether for the day or for campers—would give it more of a "resort" feel and likely enhance the experience for guests. More people would participate in the activities, and it would make things feel more welcoming.
That said, we would absolutely return. Our kids had a blast, and it was a great time...
