My husband and I had reservations for four nights from Oct 1st to Oct 5th. We were to stay at a pull forward site for the first two days and a waterfront site for the last two. The place is beautiful…the management, not so much. The first two days were uneventful. On Oct 3 rd we moved to the water front site. Two hours after we set up, Peter, the manager, loudly and aggressively knocked on our motor home door. I answered the door…he was angry. He never asked to speak to my husband and exploded at me. I should note Peter is 6', and I am 4'10". We had parked with our motorhome windshield facing the bay; a serious rule infraction. I attempted to explain we didn’t have a back window to which Peter stormed “I have never allowed anyone to have their motorhome or trailer facing the a bay…it's a back in site...you need to move it immediately”, turned around before I could say a word and stomped off. Even though he had brow beaten me, I decided to take the high road and my husband and I turned our coach around as he had demanded. Our stay was uneventful, until check out time on Oct 5th. We vacated our assigned site at 11 am…as per policy. My husband picked up our car dolly, and proceeded to the dumping station. Peter met us there and informed us my husband went the wrong way on the dirt roads, and backed up on the grass briefly to hook up the dolly, both no no’s. I should mention, Peter was insistent my husband park the dolly right on that grass spot. We began looking around for signs on the six dirt roads…there were none. There were some small one way arrows on the eastern fence, but they were hard to see due to the trailers and coaches blocking them. I also want to mention three sites east of us were two motorhomes facing the waterfront. Peter allowed them to do so, but not us. My husband proceeded to prepare our motorhome for the road: dumping the black and gray water tanks, filling the fresh water tank with water, rinsing off the sewer hoses and stowing them in their compartment, plugging in the dolly brake lights, setting the safety chains, and electric brakes, and driving our car onto the dolly and strapped it down. In checking the lights, my husband discovered the right dally brake light was out. He quickly replaced the bulb with a spare we carry. As we were pulling out, my husband noticed he had left a rag on the fence in the dumping area. He left the RV, retrieving the rag, and proceeded to rinse it out. While he was finishing up, Peter quickly drove up in his ATV. His body language told me he was angry. He had piercing eyes and shouted at my husband “You are not going to wash your car”. He then went into a tirade of the crimes my husband and I had committed: we had abused our waterfront site, drove on the grass, drove the wrong way when leaving, took two two hours after check out (actually we spent about an hour at the vacant dumping station) hoping we would get distracted and we could wash our car while he wasn’t looking. WHAT? WHAT? My husband and I were speechless. We paid $225 for this? All my husband did was rinse out a dirty rag...that's it. My husband and I are successful entrepreneurs; we have never been so rudely treated in an RV park in our 68 and 66 years of living. We have been on the road for over two years, and have never experienced anything like this...anywhere Peter was extremely verbally abusive to me...women beware. My husband left a review on Google on Oct 5th, the day we left. Peter was somehow able to get it taken down so he can continue to have an overall 5/5 rating. I hope Google allows this to stay permanently...
Read moreAcadia Seashore is a beautiful campground that is maintained superbly. It is a great location to visit both the Schoodic Peninsula (our favorite) and Mt Desert Island/Bar Harbor area. The FHU spots are not on the water but well spaced and flat. The beach area is nice and the sunsets are beautiful. The owners were very kind when we arrived, will help you park and have good recommendations. We loved the pizza on their list and did a beautiful hike at Donnell pond that Peter recommended. I am giving it only 3 stars though because the rules are very strict and Peter was very rude to us regarding our firewood. We stayed here for an entire week and chose this park due to the wonderful reviews. When living full time in campgrounds you look for friendly people. Also when camping every day firewood gets expensive. We work hard to keep costs low so find legal and safe ways to get firewood from allowed areas and even asking private land owners. My husband is a conservationist and cares very much to protect the land. We got our own firewood and cut it at our camp spot. One day, we just got home and Peter came barrelling up to our site in his atv. I was about to tell him about how much we loved the hike he recommended but he immediately told my husband that if he is going to process his own wood then he needs to pick up every piece as there was large chunks in the grass when he mowed. I immediately apologized and said we will pick up better. However, it was well picked up and we keep an immaculate campsite. We never intended to leave any pieces but the bark falls off badly and we picked up as good as possible. Peter did not need to be aggressive and rude to us. We would have kindly discussed it. I think he was mad that we did not buy his firewood and is very picky about his yard which we respect. It could have been handled so much better than that. The lights out at 9:30 is also very stringent. 10pm would be much more reasonable but it is also very hard to see outside without a light to walk the dog, kill the fire and so on. The loud knocks on our door when we accidentally left a light out and the mean looks, no waves and such after the fire issue left a horrible taste with us. It was very sad as we like to be friendly and have not had any similar issue since being on the road for months. I know these owners care about this campground immensely but it was not comfortable for us paying customers and we would not recommend this to families or anyone who likes to stay...
Read moreThis is not a hassle free campground. My brother and I had reserved an RV site for 5 nights (August 11 - 16, 2024). I carefully read the campground policies in which there were no rules stating that you couldn’t place a tent alongside a camper (which is allowed in MANY campgrounds) and is convenient when camping in a smaller camper when my two teenage daughters join me. As soon as I set up my tent, a gentleman from the campground told me that I may have to take it down but would discuss it with the manager. I referenced the lack of any policy against placing a tent on the same site as a camper. Minutes later he returned and said I could keep the tent in place but had to put my vehicle in the overflow parking. Perfectly acceptable solution. The problem started when the manager stopped by shortly afterwards. He stated that the website had been updated to change the policy and ban the use of tents on RV sites. At this point there would have been a correct way to handle the situation. He could have said that on my next visit I would have to book two sites which would have been a perfectly reasonable solution. But instead, he chose the wrong approach and demanded I move my tent to the adjacent site (which was luckily vacant) and charged me $250 (robbed $250?) for the five nights I was there. He was “generously” charging me for the tent site rate of $45/night. I was lectured on the fact that tent sites are for tents and RV sites are for RV’s only. Since when does someone change written policy after you point out an omission and then force you to accept the new policy? And charge you for it? He also greatly disturbed my daughters along with my niece and nephew who were witnessing this “discussion” and all left my site to go to my sister’s site. I’m not sure about other campers out there, but I have been camping for 10 years at many different campgrounds and have never had as bad an experience as this place. Campgrounds are in the tourism and service industry and should understand that if they only offer scenic views and terrible service, who would want to go there? I have spent the previous nine years camping at The Bar Harbor Campground every August and will be returning there next year. Please don’t stay at Acadia Seashore until the management and current owners leave or sell to someone else. BTW, I have never written a review of anything ever before but could not leave this unsaid. I hope this deters others from staying at...
