Every year for as long as I can remember, my aunt and all of my cousins get together for a long weekend to do something fun. This year we had booked the Ridgeview #2 cabin for a long float weekend. The cabin was set back away from everyone and absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed a ton of time on the back porch that is perfectly situated for watching the sun rise and fall over the rolling hills of forest. Although the water was pretty low this year, we still had a great time on the float trip! We went back to the river the next day with our lawn chairs just to sit in the river and watch the crowd as they came in after their trip down the river....and here is the reason why I wanted to post this review. As we were sitting in lawn chairs, totally enjoying the day, a young man in a kayak came barreling right through the middle of our chairs. It was clear to us that he was extremely intoxicated and was struggling to get control of his kayak to bring it to shore. Eventually he made it through our group to pull his kayak out, but instead chose to just sit down on the edge of it right in the middle of our group. We are very easygoing people and could see he needed a few moments to gather himself so we offered him a bottle of water and tried to engage him in conversation. Very quickly, he became offensive, even grabbing my drink out of my cup holder when I had gotten up and helped my aunt move her chair to a more shaded area. We eventually asked him to move on from our group. He declined to do so, however after a while of us ignoring him, he silently got up and moved to the next group down. That group also asked him to move along and so we found him back with our group at which time we asked him again to move on. This time it was clear he was looking for a fight and he flat out refused to leave our circle. At this point we asked the gentlemen working for Bass River Resorts pulling and loading the watercraft for their assistance. ALL of the gentle man came over for assistance!! They handled the situation PERFECTLY!!! The kayaker was most certainly doing everything he could to escalate the situation and the Bass River Resort employees kept the situation as calm as possible, eventually placing his personal craft on their truck and taking him back to his campsite. We were able to totally enjoy the rest of our afternoon at the river. A HUGE thank you to the outstanding employees and to Bass River Resort for ensuring the safety of their guests. I would highly recommend Bass River Resort to all my friends and look forward to coming...
Read moreOur list of complaints about Bass River Resort is so long I honestly don't know where to start. I called several days in advance to ask about the price for tubbing and if a reservation for tubbing was necessary, first the staff member could not tell me the exact price, and after several minutes of waiting I was quoted "it's around $25-$30" and then was told that if we did not pay and reserve the tubes now, there would not be any left for us and there were only a few tubes left and we would not be able to float the day we arrive. On the day we were supposed to float, I checked the weather before we started our drive to bass river resort, seeing the weather called for storms starting around 2pm, I immediately called bass river and asked about their cancellation policy. I was told on the phone they will not refund any booked reservation within 10 days of that reservation regardless of weather. I was then told "I don't know why you are trying to cancel your reservation, it's a beautiful day and there is not reason to cancel" Because I had booked 5 tubes($30 per person) and 2 canoes($50 per canoe) my group decided to float on the river and hope that the weather would hold out since we wouldn't get our money back. After driving 3 hours to get to bass river from our home town, we arrived and checked it. When I explained to the staff member that we were there even though we knew it was going to start raining and we would have liked to cancel, we were told we could have canceled if there was bad weather! At this point there was no reason to not try and float. We were rained on the entire time and paddled as fast as we could to end the misery. The worst part about the entire situation was that upon floating on the river, we were quite literally THE ONLY GROUP WE SAW WITH TUBES. Even though we were told previously if we did not reserve the tubes they would we sold out? We saw probably 100 tubes stacked upon the river shore before starting our float, and we were one of the last groups to star floating on the river. We were treated extremely disrespectfully and it became ubundantly clear after speaking with the staff at bass river resort numerous times that their customer service was not only poor, it is simply non exsistant. We are not difficult people, all we ask if that when we call about the price of something, your staff should be able to answer us and when we request to reschedule due to bad weather don't lie and say we can't and then later tell us that we could have after we already drove 3 hours...
