We enjoyed our time at the lodge. My family had 8 adults and 5 children under the age of 6 years. The layout is a little odd, and the lights are pretty much non-existent. Fews things to watch for are the bunk room for kids has concrete floors and the downstairs bathroom has a step up to it that is very slick when wet! We had an adult slip and fall hard. The stairs are fairly steep as well. Overall, the main things you interact with every day are clean. The oven needs cleaned badly. The floors and walls were extremely dusty as well. It needs a good deep cleaning and organizing. The closets were stuffed full with random stuff. We were looking for toilet paper as we were running out towards the end. The games were missing a lot of pieces, so bring your own games. We found 1 deck of cards after checking 3 or 4 for a full set. The path down to the lake was a little weedy but manageable. I thought it was a good spot for kids as the water was shallow pretty far out and sandy bottom. Lastly, our host came and mowed in the middle of our stay, which I thought was weird as the grass wasn't tall at all. We had to clean up our yard games and put stuff away before she could. It was something that could have waited until we were gone after checkout. Overall I would consider staying here...
Read moreOur family loves sharing time and making new memories at the Firefly Lodge. The Army Corp of Engineers has allowed for a walking path to the lake, but no mowing or spraying along that path is allowed. (sometimes I have seen poison ivy so be careful to stay on the path). The nicely mowed yard allowed for us to play outdoor games and sit by the fire pit and enjoy s'mores too. I realize it is a cabin in the woods, so I remembered to bring the bug spray as well as be prepared for other adventures of being in the woods. The five sleeping areas allow for guest to share space (only two areas have privacy) and stories! The bathrooms are updated and provide comfort for when on the main floor or basement area. The kitchen is so nice to be able to prepare the meals all while being able to visit with other guests. The cabin was built by the owners family and it is wonderful that they share it with the public. We will absolutely return for a visit and enjoy the lake, trails, and...
Read moreIt's hard to review this place. the TLDR is I would stay here again.
The good It's an amazing location, with great access to the lake, really cool view, and a ton of space. Kitchen and amenities are what you would expect. And "town" is 20 min away, for whatever you forgot, or to eat out.
The weird. Light switches are in weird places and take some figuring out. The bathroom walls don't go to the ceiling, so you can hear whatever someone is doing in there. The floors are all wood and wow they can creak with every step.
The final For a weekend or a few days, the weird stuff is not that bad, more than that might start to get to the annoying stage, but we would stay here again...
