THEY FORGOT ABOUT US! I float with Huzzah Valley Resort at least 3-5x a year with my wife and always had a great experience. When my three friends discussed going on a float this summer my first choice was Huzzah Valley so we visited the weekend of 6/27/15. We decided to float on a Sunday to avoid major crowds and the sign-up/pay process went normally – I usually do the bus up/float down to the campsite option (Harpers Slab) but was told “we’re not doing those floats today” so we were forced to take the put-in at campsite and float down to Scotia Bridge to be brought back via bus/van. I was confused when the person at the counter asked when we’d like to be picked up since they are supposed to have shuttles running/waiting all day with this type of float. She explained how long the float usually takes so we chose a “pick-up time” of 6:30pm but we’re told not to worry since a bus was there all day to take people back to the campsite…but she still asked for a specific pick-up time for some reason. We parked in the appropriate “floaters” area and got in our raft after giving one of the employees at the beach our boarding pass – nobody ever asked for a boarding pass, however, we had to go find someone to let them know which raft we were taking and went on our way. The float went well as expected and we arrived at the pull-out beach at 6:15pm but there was no bus/van or evidence that anyone else had been there recently or all day for that matter. I assumed it was a slow day and that a bus or van would be coming at 6:30pm like we had agreed upon when we signed up. By 7:00pm there was still no sign of any Huzzah Valley employee and of course we had no cell phones or wallets with us and there is no way to make a call from the pull-out area, try to get a taxi, etc. Then a severe storm rolled in and we were forced to crouch under their trailer of canoes for cover as we continued to wait for someone to arrive to pick us up. We were able to flag down a passing motorist who had a cell phone (but no signal) and said they would drive by Huzza Valley to let someone know we were stranded at their pick-up point. It was clear at this point that Huzzah Valley Resort wasn’t just late…they forgot about us! Finally at 8:00pm (1.5 hours AFTER the agreed upon pick-up time and 1.75 hours after we arrived) a van arrived and picked us up (still pouring rain at this point) and took us back to the campsite. The person who finally arrived to pick us up mentioned they only figured out we were missing after seeing only one car left in the floater parking area and having to go search the computer system for who or where we may be… When I went to speak to the owner/manager about the situation (Collin was his name) the general explanation I got was to the effect of “You floated, right?” Collin then went on to explain that they have waited for floaters in the past and that his staff aren’t always on time for pick-ups…still never admitting that this wasn’t a being late issue and more of a forgetting that four human beings were sent down the river with nobody to pick them up after. They also do their “last pick-ups” at 7pm so it was an hour after that before they actually got us – also keep in mind THEY charge YOU if you’re later than 7pm for pick-up but apparently that policy doesn’t go both ways. I asked Collin for a full refund for the float at this point and was essentially told “Go f—k yourself, I’m not doing anything for you.” Keep in mind this is their manager (and possibly owner) talking here! The story goes on and on but Collin eventually only agreed to offer a “free float on my next visit” or to refund the one night of camping for that night that we had already paid for - $33 for 3 people to camp vs the $116 I paid to float and get left stranded. Since I never plan on coming here ever again I took what little refund I could get and got out of that place as...

Our family (10 adults) planned a float trip and 3 night camping at the Huzzah Valley Resort. We arrived Friday night, set up, and enjoyed a lovely evening. We slept well and woke up ready to float. We checked the weather by asking one of the employees at the main shop and she said it would be overcast all day, and the rain would begin at 6 pm. Due to this information, we decided the float would still be doable, so we pushed out at 12 PM. Within a half hour it was sprinkling. By 1 pm, it was a steady downpour. There was thunder and lightning, and we just paddled the 6 miles non stop to avoid getting struck. Not only did We have to fight through the rain, but we had to make our way through WAY too many people (400+ just from Huzzah alone, plus the floaters from Bass River and Ozark outdoors). People were stopping everywhere in the middle of the river and even in the currents. There should be a limit set per day like there is on the other floating rivers (Current, Black, Jacks Fork, etc). The float was absolutely miserable and stressful. When we got to the pull out zone, we tried to stand and wait for our party, but the lady there very rudely told us we needed to get on the bus and 'they have never lost people before'. A bit overconfident for having people in metal canoes in the water during lightning. We returned to the campsite, got in the tents immediately and waited for the rain to let up so we could pack up and leave. It never did. We all 'slept' with water in the tents and dripping on our faces. Sunday morning, we packed up immediately to head home (plan was to stay until Monday). We went up to the Visitors center and requested a refund for the night we weren't staying. We were told no refunds, but we can get a rain check. We requested one of both nights and the float (since it was NOT enjoyable). We were told that we could get a voucher only for the night we didn't stay. Again, we were helped by a very rude employee who stated 'well you knew the forecast, and you floated anyway, so there's nothing I can do.' I informed her that we were told by an employee before we floated that the rain was predicted for 6 PM, and it wasn't raining when we pushed out, so had we known it would thunderstorm, we wouldn't have floated. We received no help. We stayed in a tiny tent camping site that we paid 400 dollars for 3 nights for, and an additional 250 to float. I am in awe that after paying 650 dollars, we were met with such rudeness and no desire to make it worth our money. When I have floated with other (MUCH BETTER) companies, we were offered rain checks if it even sprinkled (which I never accepted because there was no lightning, and the river wasn't a cluster of people). DO NOT FLOAT THE HUZZAH, and ESPECIALLY not at HVR. Take your business to someone who wants you to enjoy yourself, not someone who just wants to make as much money as possible. Also, just noticed there's no place to review on the HVR...

Currently staying in a cabin here for three night and 4 days. First day I showed up at 6pm they said the cabin I rented was already rented even tho we reserved it before showing up on their website. and I had to move to a different cabin right next door. I’ve been here four days now and no one is staying at the cabin I rented originally. The last day I added one extra day to our stay after checking online and seeing no one rented the cabin we were in. The manager lied again and said they would move us, because our cabin is rented for the night. and we would have to wait 4 hours to get another cabin while they are all empty. I stated I’ll pack up and move to bass or eagle Hearst if I have to move cabins and wait four hours. And magically the cabin became open for the day after the realized I was going to leave and my money was going elsewhere. The office managers are a huge issue. Everyone in the store is nice besides the old ladies who apparently are managers. They are super rude and need to realize they work at a resort not a trailer park. I dished out 1k in three days for kayak trips and a cabin and those store managers have been nothing but rude. The bus driver was very nice. The bus ride back from our float, the trailer came detached from our bus. And there was so much fear from the driver reporting it to the office that they just didn’t. I had to get out and help re hitch the kayak trailer to their bus on a very sketchy and dangerous highway. and got no discount, apology, nor a thank you for re attaching their trailer that came off during the drive back. Luckily the trailer didn’t slam into the bus injuring my kids. Seems like there is a big issue with the rude old ladies in the office making all the other employees and guest stay awful. The younger girls in the store were more professional and helpful than the managers. They need to fire or retrain the management here. If they are truly that miserable to be able to be rude to every guest and employee. They should find a different job. Peoples vacations shouldn’t be ruined because they are rude and are having a bad day.

The managers in the store are so rude that 90% of my vacation my wife and I have been joking back in forth if we acted like that in our careers what would happen to us. Their rudeness is hard to forget and will keep me thinking of them for a while. I’d be more than happy to talk to the owner and let him know how we train our employees or when we fire them. Lol. Cause those two old lady managers need a good firing.

The water gets 5 starts. The old lady managers would get 0 stars. It would be smart to get rid of them or tell them to let the younger girls deal with people because the kids have more common sense and customer service than the...

It's a bit of a trek from St. Louis, but well worth it for the awesome experience - the river has crawdads and fish and amazingly cool rocks (including geodes) for kids to explore, and frequent banks perfect for picnics. There are some shallower areas that require a bit of portage, and rope swings set up along deeper stretches as well as calm tree-covered tunnels- I like the size of the river before it joins up with the Meramec, it seems easier to get in&out of the vehicle (raft, canoe, kayak or tube) and a lot of the others were long-standing repeat floaters from our conversations. For someone who typically isn't a fan of technology, their updated online paperwork made it SO MUCH EASIER to get to the fun part - especially when you have small kids who want to be there and in the water already.
