Black Hills Meadow — Hotel in Summerset

We had our wedding here last week, the Friday after Sturgis Rally. We loved every second of it! Terri is the owner and an overall exceptional person to work with. Spur Meadows is a venue that accommodated our every wish. Unlike many other venues, we could use any caterer, DJ, photographer, and decorator we liked. We chose to decorate everything ourselves and Terri had many things on site for use. The small forest was the perfect spot for the actual wedding and provided protection from the weather. The building where we held the reception had an open feeling about it and it was very easy to mingle among guests and just have fun. There was a small bar on site and all we had to do was buy alcohol for Terri and her bartender to serve. There were very well displayed signs advertising which beer and wine was free for all to use. Terri also has a selection of wines and beer if people wanted to buy something different than what we provided. We chose a few of her add-ons and were pleased. The house was rented out to us and made it very easy to wake up there and get ready the day of. It made for beautiful pre-wedding pictures. The grooms party opted for renting the trailer and was very relaxing to sit and enjoy pre-wedding beverages. We decided to rent out all the cabins that Terri had as well. Each cabin has its own mini fridge and air conditioner. The cabins are situated in a “horse shoe” shape and close enough to set chairs up in the middle and have a fun time the night before but far enough apart to provide much needed privacy when around family for prolonged periods of time. If you are looking for a simple, rustic, yet elegant wedding venue, you've come to the right place. Terri and I stayed in contact throughout the whole wedding planning process. We had many get togethers at the venue to go over planning and options for the wedding! She let me show the venue to my mother in law and mom when they were in town and that meant so much to me! We were struggling to find a venue that fit my vision and didn't cost an arm and a leg in Rapid City. She helped us decorate, prepare, and even clean up after the wedding. We loved the setting so much. It was so beautiful and everything I imagined! Her covered outdoor patio was perfect for our late September wedding. My dream of getting married outside also came true when we got married in the sunset in beautiful tree groves at Spur Meadows. My wife and I attended a wedding for a family member at Spur Meadows. The weather was cold and rainy, neither of which bode well for weddings set up like this one. The ceremony took plus in this covered pole structure, which looked great but was not adequate for inclement weather. This meant that post-ceremony, many were relegated to huddling in the 'bar' area. If your wedding has many guests, this won't work as there is not much room.

Overall, this venue seems okay. There just wasn't a good contingency plan for inclement weather. I'm not sure if that is my family's fault, or if is the responsibility of the venue.
