Very clean and well maintained campground that is hostile towards walk in canoe campers. We did a 4 night canoe trip along the Jacks fork river and found this beautiful campground right at the end of our 3rd day on the river. Of course everything has to booked online which is very annoying as we're trying to put our phones down for a few days to enjoy nature. Oh yea and it took forever to book because you have to have an NPS account and service which is damn near impossible because we're in the, you know, MOUNTAINS. Is a simple cash pay station too much to ask? We were also treated very poorly by the campground hosts who were very rude and snippy about the rules. We were happy to comply with the rules of the park and were non confrontational about the whole thing but it was clear the hosts did not want us there. We didn't know we couldn't hang a tarp from the trees or the strict tent limit per site as we were walk ins and didn't have internet access. I know ignorance of the rules is never an excuse to break them but a little grace and a kind explanation of the rules would have sufficed but we got the opposite. The whole event ruined what was otherwise a great day on the river. They should consider putting up a sign that reads "canoe campers unwelcome" to avoid this sort of confusion...
Read moreWe wanted a peaceful camping to get away from all the city drama. Instead we got horrible treatment. After 10 some people feel it's time for you to go to bed. Yet the rules say quiet hour. We were fine with that till we were yelled at to go to sleep and shut up. So no talking or enjoyment by a camp fire. To bad it was Friday and summer so it doesn't even get dark till after 8. The moon was so beautiful had a great view to bad we couldnt enjoy it. When I came here I had no problem with following rules but it seems that there are rules they don't tell you about. Check out is at noon and don't be late by any reason or you'll have another issue. Yet we looked at every post they had and the rules are everywhere no check out time posted. Brought a dog who wasn't left alone. Part of our party left without telling us. Which left the 6lb chihuahua alone for 30min. Was yelled at by the people who had 2 big dogs that barked all night long and then by the workers there. Boy I try to make the best out of anything but the people are just rude and pushy. Campsite are small and just not as nice as most places we have been. I suggest swimming here but camp elsewhere. Instead of a vacation we had miss treatment with having 5 adults and 8 kids just wasn't worth the trouble with a 3 hour drive. We...
Read moreAwesome campground right on the shore of the Jacks Fork River. The campground is flat and large, fairly spread out and well maintained. There are several “private-ish” sites and the facilities are all well maintained. There are 6 shower stalls, bathrooms with running water in each of the “loops”, and electricity and water at all the 600 loop sites. There is a phone for emergency calls (NO CELL SIGNAL with ATT) and a dump station for campers.
Fishing was ok along the river from the shores in early October although the river was pretty low. We used worms and caught several bluegill. The sites were beautiful and this is a great “home base” to visit all the sites of the Ozark Riverways.
Firewood is available for purchase in the town of Eminence and at the canoe outfitters/general store across the highway from the camp site. Eminence also has a few eating places, a small grocery store and several gas stations for food/fuel/libations/supplies.
The mill/spring is a quick .25 mile away with a beautiful 1.3 mile and .3 mile hike. You must visit if you come to...
