This place was AMAZING! We spent the day floating down the Edisto with several friends and their kids. We wrapped up the river floating by having a picnic/cookout at the dock. Once we finished there, we went back to the site and got the chance to stay in the "Heron" (which had a full size bed , fan and reading nook, in a teepee style tent). Plus, theres so much to do! From playing in the water and cooking out at the dock on the water, to enjoying the ground's wildlife and fishing. We even got a "welcome" from the site manager, Angela (and several chickens and goats) when we first arrived on the site!
There's awesome fishing available on the grounds and each site had ots own fire pit. The best part for me is that we were close enough to our neighbors to hang out and wind down over a fire at the end of the night, yet far enough away to sleep peacefully when we were ready to lay down. Great place for kids and adults. You can even get a couple of sites and take a group. I cannot wait to go back and invite some friends for some "Glamping".
And if the tent sites do not suit your style, there's other options. There's no electricty in the tent, (which we loved) but there are solar lamps that provide a nice light. The Natural Gathering Grounds has byo tent sites, one of their tent sites (I felt like I was in a Teepee in ours), one site with a camper, and there are even indoor options available if thats more your style.
The site has a beautiful bathhouse (for men and women) and some beautiful walking trails (they even let you pick blackberries that grown along the trails). They are even eco-friendly and have a "waste center" which includes recycling and compost sections!!!
If mosquitoes usually bother you, you may want to bring some spray for yourself or a citronella candle, although they didn't really bother us. If you want electricity, I'd suggest booking the sites that accomadate that. If you want more seclusion, I even think they have sites where you can "rough it" and bring your own tent and supplies.
This place has sites to suit many styles, so I recommend searching for the site that suits you best (I saw them on facebook and airbnb). We got the "Heron" this time, but cant wait to go back and visit another site. All in all, it was a beautiful place to "gather" and we cannot wait to get back!
*Disclaimer: My pictures do NOT do the site justice as I did not think about my phone all day. We got back and just vefore visiting our "neighbors" I took a few pics, seen here at the Glamping area. Much, much, better in person, see...
Read moreThis place is magical! The grounds are beautiful and so peaceful. There are eight sites nicely spaced apart surrounding a small lake and nestled against wooded area, each with fire-pit and picnic table. Firewood is available and the bathhouse is clean and well stocked. We decided to extend our stay an extra night - there are so many paths to explore and just nice to rest in a hammock and let the goats and peacocks roam around you. There are gnome houses placed around the grounds adding whimsy and fun discovery on the trails. The river dock is beautifully situated on the bend of the river. We’ve been telling our friends and family about the place and will definitely be back. We typically go tent camping, but do want to rent one of the RVs at some point as well. Each one is uniquely decorated and super cute. Thanks, Maren + team for an...
Read moreNatural Gathering Grounds was absolutely the most relaxing and peaceful experience I've ever had. My family and I had a 3 weekend stay to celebrate my father's birthday on the 4th.
Angela and her husband are the grounds keepers and the parents of the owners. They were extremely accommodating and made every attempt to ensure our stay was comfortable. They provided a golf cart for easy travel around their 54-acre farm. The fishing was easy and accessible, the river was a lazy relaxing delight for floating, the grounds were emaculant; filled with beautiful scenery at every turn. I can...
