Took my family of 6 up here for a winter weekend so the kids could play in the snow. I've been coming here for years in all of the seasons, so I know the place well. Got checked in, arrived to the cabin (which was already warm), and unpacked and settled in for the day. The power went out around 2am or so after a pretty fierce winter storm rolled in. We woke up freezing, as it was in the low 20s outside with several feet of snow. No fault of the lodge whatsoever, no biggie. We were given free bundles of wood, almost half off the sledding hill due to it being open after the power returned around 11am, and a very understanding attitude about the situation from the staff. Very nice. 10pm the power goes out again. A member of the staff drove around all of the cabins giving out free firewood to last until late morning the next day. Again, very understanding from staff. This is one of the many reasons I come back to the resort year after year, and all seasons. The cabins are quite outdated and a bit drafty, but it's the experience that counts. The resort is magical in the winter, and the summer is my personal favorite. Lots to to all year. If you plan on staying in the winter, bring your own firewood, as they give you one small bundle per day. That's not nearly enough. You can buy it, but it's not good for burning slow for long hours. Bring some oak or the likes. And your sense of adventure!

We booked a night in room 10 on the bottom floor. Check in was busy but helpful, just a fair warning they DO NOT have wifi. Which is a good thing. We didn’t have service either, we spent the night taking walks in the snow and watching movies on the TV together, it was great! The customer service was good, they offer you cups and ice before going to the room, the lodge has massive fireplaces, a bar that’s open till around 11pm, and a place for food. Our room was clean, simple, yet comfortable and they had everything you can need. The heater was blasting when we opened the door, the bed was comfy (I suggest bringing your own pillows) and we slept great. We went tubing during the day which ended at 4pm right when we could check in! It was handy and a great way to end the evening after tubbing for a few hours. There is no stoves or cooking- so I suggest bringing food you can microwave or eating at their restaurant! A great place for a family or a date night getaway.

It's always fun to stay at the lodge and enjoy the boat rental options they have at the marina. The little beer garden setup is pretty slick too. Wish the beer cart would open sooner, but that's probably for the better. Great food that you can enjoy inside or out. Mosquitos are a thing. They seem to be worse on the warmer days. During our stay for the 4th we had a few cooler days and mosquitos were barely around on those days. I'd say anything below 70 was nice as there were way less bugs. Anything above 80 was rough. On the warmer days I'd be walking around outside with my boy. We'd be chatting, then out of no where we'd have to close our mouth and stop talking for a good 5 seconds while we walked through a "smoke screen" of mosquitos. Everyone is nice and informative here. They want the experience to be fun and safe for everyone. We are already planning our 4th year of spending the 4th of July up at Diamond Lake.

June 2018 I rented the over $1000 a night “retreat” For a week. This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve stayed here & by far the worst service! Before I arrived I asked for the grill to be cleaned. I requested this because The last time we stayed there the grill was so nasty that It caught on fire because no one had cleaned out the grease trap in forever. So this time I was clear off the bat that the grill needed to be cleaned! When I arrived of course it was filthy with chunks of food & bugs & looked like no one cleaned it ever, they also did not provide a grill brush. I asked to please have someone clean it in the morning. Around 9am (on one of my guests birthdays) someone showed up banging on the door loudly (waking up everyone in the house) to clean the grill and within about 3min they were gone. I checked & the grill looked untouched! I called the front desk and left a message with no reply by 4pm I called again &!was told housekeeping would come back. Randomly a woman walked into the bottom floor of the house without knocking (startling us all) saying “hello? Someone wanted sponges?” & asking about a window downstairs that the screen had fallen out of (which was weird). I tried to explain to her that no, we needed the grill cleaned & a grill brush. Then another woman showed up, the “head housekeeper”, and was extremely rude to the first Lady, she yelled at her “I will take care of this customer you can go back to the front desk!” & when the woman tried to speak she cut her off and repeated it again much louder and meaner in front of me and all my kids & guests! Her behavior was extremely unprofessional, and then she was short with me & said it was “not part of her job” & that she would call “maintenance” and promptly left. By 6pm we were all starving & No one had shown up (& I was waiting to make a large birthday dinner I had planned for my kids & my guests) so i went down to the front desk. The front desk women seemed to have no idea what was going on & said they would call a manager and maintenance would be there shortly. The ONLY guy to actually help that day was JC the maintenance man who at 7pm took the grill parts with him and cleaned them thoroughly & brought them back about 45min later but by then we were all just so hungry that instead of having to wait till the cleaner cooked off (another 1/2hr to hour) we just all went and had a lovely meal at the Restaurant there & our waitress Shannon was amazing. The next day the rude housekeeper and a not very kind Manager guy showed up looking annoyed at me & looked at the grill & I showed them the food chunks & rest of the grill that was still nasty (JC didn’t have anything to clean those parts) and they said housekeeping would come and clean it & they finally did about an hour later. Every day (except that first day) housekeeping showed up at 10-10:30am banging loudly on our door waking everyone in the house up (on our vacation when we ALL wanted to sleep in, especially me because I just had surgery & this was supposed to be a relaxing vacation) a team of 5-6 people would enter the house All at once & go through all the bathrooms & up & down stairs & we had to constantly ask them to take the trash. It was very intrusive & I don’t remember that ever happening before when we stayed there! The overall cleanliness of the house this stay was poor to start off with! There was dust everywhere & cobwebs & dirty insides of the bathroom & kitchen drawers & the house is falling into disrepair (although they still charge the same $$$$) with broken cabinet doors & scratches all over the wood & walls. There were chunks of dirt on the carpets (I don’t think it was vacuumed in quite some time). And yet on the day we were checking out we were treated Once again VERY rudely by the housekeeping staff & told “ guests are coming tomorrow & we need the entire day to clean it” refusing to give us even one extra hour to check out & showed up exactly at checkout time demanding we “get out as fast as possible” We...

The lake is beautiful and I would come back to swim or picnic. However, we had a terrible experience today with the resort. My husband and I wanted to rent a paddle boat for half an hour on the lake. When we went out, the only paddle boat had water in the bottom. I assumed that the water was sloshing over the sides of the boat, which is true. However, we quickly discovered that the boat is leaking through holes where the pedals are! It took on water quickly to the point we were sinking after about 20 minutes. Also, the steering was completely nonfunctional, so we were completely at the mercy of the waves, which sent us into the roped off area for swimmers! We got tangled in the rope and my husband had to hop out of the boat into the water to get us untangled. Meanwhile, at this point, the boat was sinking and about to be submerged. My husband finally got the boat untangled and pulled us to shore. Finally employees came out of the rental shack (no employees nor lifeguards supervising water, can’t be safe). The employees told us to take our life jackets to the rental shack and that this is what to expect with paddle boats! It absolutely is not, we have been on paddle boats several times and never had one that sinks and has broken steering. Then the employees put the broken paddle boats BACK IN THE WATER FOR THE NEXT PAYING CUSTOMERS TO USE!!! When I went inside to bring our life jackets back, I explained all this to the cashier and all she had to say was “that sucks” and then began helping the next customer. I was fuming. My husband and I got a refund for our $15, but we still had to drive home in soaking wet clothes and shoes. We never even had an apology. And the fact that the resort thinks it’s ok to continue using a boat that sinks is not only frustrating but outright dangerous. Thankfully, we had stayed near the edge of the lake, but if we had started sinking in the middle of the lake, someone could have drowned. Overall, I am shocked that this resort operates in this way and would never, ever spend any time or money there again. I would visit the lake again because it is beautiful and absolutely worth seeing, but...

We rented unit 51 for three nights from August 14th thru August 16th for $337 a night. I should still be there as I am typing this review. When we walked into our room the temperature was extremely hot. I located three separate thermostats, one each in the two bedrooms and one in the living room. All the units were different and all looked to be very old. They were so old that the settings were unreadable on two of them. I went back to the office and let them know and asked if there was air conditioning to cool the room down. They said "no" and that the previous occupants must have turned the heat completely on to their highest settings. They also said that the cleaning staff must not have reset them, which was obvious. They offered no solutions and no help whatsoever. I went back to the room and in about 5 minutes I figured out (by trial and error) how to turn off the one in the living room. The one in the main bedroom took another few minutes. Note that even though two were turned off the room was still extremely hot. We tried opening windows with little luck in helping with the heat. The third bedroom was a nightmare as the dial spun around 360 degrees and did not stop. The dial itself looked like it had been popped off and replaced in not its orginal position. I could not figure out where low or off was and where to move it to if I knew where it was. I started off by trial and error and every hour moved it a little. I think I finally got it at about 2:30 in the morning. The room was incredibly hot the entire night so I ended up not sleeping at all. We showered at 4:30 in the morning (one of the neatly folded towels was covered with dirt stains) and packed, put the room keys on the dining room table and left at 5:00 am. We stayed one miserable night and basically donated two nights back to the resort. I also spent some time trying to get rid of the many, many flies that were in the room. I got most of them but there were still a few buzzing around when we left. We spent over $1,000 for one miserable night and left so we could sleep somewhere else. We would have been better off...
