Beautiful campground but.... Camping is a walk to the lake with no views. They want silence at the campground, even before 10pm they are telling you to be quite. We could not even be outside or they will come tell you to be quite. They also approach kids instead of adults about this, which is inappropriate. So if you want to enjoy a campfire or visit with anyone before or after 10pm this place isn't for you. They watch you in the dark woods and then they pop out and turn their head lamps on in your face and yell at you at 10:01pm. The guy was hostile, confrontational and rude. All our group had left at 9:50pm, we were just quietly picking up when we were told to be done outside by a staff member. Then when you ask them to do something about the 2 neighboring sites with 100's of flashing xmas lights and an actual strobe light next to your tent and the staff just ignore you and walk off. The lights were on all night while those people where allowed to sit outside talking and smoking weed long past 10pm having a disco party. Then down by the cabins all the employees are loudly having a campfire out by the coffee house long after 10pm, which we could hear at our campsite. I don't understand the rules here, they only apply to some.
Now if you try to sit around your campsites to visit and play games during the day the staff will race around doing chores past your campsite on four wheelers with carts behind them going so fast the carts go airborne and then slame to the ground making so much noise and dust. This was done everyday for hours. Then some days they will drag the gravel roads in circles around you covering you and everything in dust.
They also charge you a deposit when booking which is normal, but then charge a 2nd deposit a few months later because we were meeting up with other family there. They didn't tell me they were going to charge me again and refused to reply to my email. Then other family members had to pay full up front. One family that was there extended their reservations and they just booked them a 2nd site and then came up and said they were a no show after they had already been camping there. They don't seem to know what their rules or policies are or how to use the software. Everything is so inconsistent. They won't apologize even when it's their mistake. This is definitely not a place where customer service is the priority.
So if you enjoy going to bed early and sitting inside your camper all day or leaving the campground area this place is for you. It's clean and well kept. This place did not work for groups or traditional normal camping. They do not like groups, so beware if you are planning a joint family trip, there will be different charges and different...
Read moreThis koa left so much to be desired. At first my husband was annoyed and I shrugged it off because we were in the middle of nowhere. They had a large lake which I thought was beautiful, but little did I know until trying to keep my kids occupied the lake has huge algea blooms in the summer rendering it unswimmable. I was told by the owner I could take my chances and rent a pontoon boat for almost 200 dollars for a HALF day and see if the conditions improved out on the water. He didn't personally know, heaven forbid he knows anything about the place he manages... That's a theme here, they want every scrap of your money to do anything.
I then inquired about swimming in nearby diamond lake and was told nonchalantly that it might be better but he wasn't sure.
I guess what made me the most upset was the attitude of complete blasee on his part. I mean I went to the store 3 times in an hour desperately seeking some type of activity for my family aside from Crater lake and he wasn't too interested in helping me out. I know koa has many activities you need to pay for, but usually we make do with swimming and playgrounds which wasn't an option as when you put your foot in the lake it disappears in algea and there simply is no playground. They have dust though buckets of it in fact!!!
Much to my dismay, after a family argument that nearly caused us to leave the area completely, my daughter and I ventured to nearby diamond lake to find a gorgeous setting, first come first served dry camping for 16 dollars a night and a beautiful beach at the South end boat launch with a picnic area and awesome swimming.
I wasted hours of my day becoming more and more frustrated with our situation for nothing. We could have easily spent a relaxing day at the beach and I never would have written this review..
Long story short, if you are used to koa campgrounds, this is not even close to being a normal one. I am all for roughing it, but we pay extra for amenities when we stay at koa facilities on road trips.
My suggestion to the owner is go to concierge school. I've never been so perplexed as to why someone would not help a mom looking for something for her kids to do. Turns out there's half a dozen waterfalls within an hour, but I only found that out after chewing through a gig of data looking for something to do.
If you decide to go, you've...
Read moreSpectacular & beautiful location "AWAY" from it all!! The lake with the mountain backdrop is breathtaking. Lemola lake is a huge deep lake, full of fish, thanks to the Oregon Fish and wildlife department! The KOA has various motorized boats to rent, plus other paddle boats for hire to get out on the water to fish and play in! Plan to bring in all food, gear, etc.. that you need as the nearest full-service grocery store is 80+ miles away on curvey roads. The KOA camp store does have basic amenities at reasonable prices just in case you find yourself needing something. ||The campsite and grounds are well maintained. We had a 30ft trailer and had no issues with the pull through space and ease of getting into our spot; the site hosts can help guide you into the space if you need assistance. Contrary to the comments about the campsites being too close to one another, we found this campground to be quite spacious with sites well separated; we have stayed in many lovely state campgrounds and other private parks where you are literally lined up in rows with about 15 feet apart from the other trailers/rigs. At Lemola Lake, most of the RV campsites have very nice larger areas with fire pits to sit out around with friends and family, plus they each have a picnic table. ||Since you are in the Cascades, you will find Mosquitoes and biting flies depending upon the time of day and temperatures outside....so bring repellant and clothing to keep the bugs at bay! There are lovely waterfall hikes within 30-minutes or less from the campground and the North Entrance to Crater Lake is 18 miles away. We hiked to 6 different waterfalls and stopped by one along the way on the East Rim drive; varying degrees of difficulty, with the hardest being a 3.4 round trip hike with an elevation drop of about 400 feet all the way down to see the spectacular base of Lemola waterfall! We cannot wait to return to explore the many hiking trails in the area and try our luck to catch a Trophy...
