This is one of the nicest free campsites I've been to so far. There is a pair of geese with 7 goslings, and a skinny turkey that visits. I even find some wild spinach and lots of dandelion greens for lunch. My dogs have found a couple of stickers leftover from last year but this years crop are not mature yet. The grass was recently mowed and the privies are clean. There are several nicely shaded areas after the noon sun. The locals come through during the week. Some for fishing, some for a swim. There have been a couple other long term campers, and a few come and go over the weekend. I've been here for a little over a week and plan on taking advantage of the full 14 days.

Perfect for astronomy/astrophotography. Not a very well-known site for these persuits, but it's only 45 minutes from hotels in Elk City and Shamrock. Very well-maintained place with good facilities (tables, parking, etc) and not too far from civilization if you get into trouble or need emergency services. Attached is an unprocessed image of Andromeda, 10-second exposure through a telescope running at f/7.5 and no LPR filter. Highly recommend if you're passing through Oklahoma on I-40 and want to see actual dark skies relatively free of light pollution.

Cool looking spot. Seems set up just right. Only problems we have with it is the outhouse style restrooms STINK. lol Seriously tho, the only thing wrong with this place is the wind and all the sand the gets into, literally, everything. Trust me, you can't stop it. Wind kept my tent flat most of the time. My sleeping bag and air mattress had sand in it, on it, and under it. I had sand in a dry bag that I never opened while there. How can water not get in, but sand can? Bewildering. Not much to do in this campground other than fish.

It has everything that this fulltime traveler needs to enjoy her camping experience. Although I live out of a converted minivan, and I have a portable toilet, I will use the facilities the campground offers if they are available and clean. This Campground is well maintained. I have two cell phones from two different providers, Verizon did not work. Believe it or not my Tracfone had a signal, LOL. Skip out Campground is located on a reservoir. They must stock it because I saw fisherman out there almost every day of the two weeks I was there. Oh, did I mention the Road into the campground is paved. As well all of the sites are alongside the...
