I was very active in activities sponsored by 4-H organization introduced to my class at Center Street Elementary. I was the only student I remember who chose to participate in contests and summer camp where I was appointed as daily flag raiser. I win baking by made from scratch cake I cooked and decorated. Chosen second in public speaking me and mom thought presented best, the unicorn poem by e.v. rieu. Many events like archery and canoeing tandem were fun despite it capsizing getting my hair wet. The meals and group gatherings in the log cabin was good and not outside. I went on to interview for the 4-H center director position that required getting my boating certification. Cooperative extension was a leading name at Auburn University where the leader was advisor to sorority zeta phi beta that recruited me in between the last two accounts. I chose not to pledge and did not get hired are not the most positive to write but true. All a part of life's experiences and not the panty raid I said would have to be eliminated if still existed as director since that is the one thing I avoided and made my excuse to get sleep for assignment. It's okay to refuse even if you get labeled an insider but outcasted. All is for the good. I would recommend 4-H to my kids if I had children. Otherwise might never have had the chance to see how difficult it is to milk a cow. Making a donation is why Google has this in their grasps and junior achievement where years later I was salesperson of the year in 1987&1988 high school but nowhere discovered a giving opportunity following footsteps. I only have 2 feet. Get involved. It'll change your life forevermore. I wear my 4-H alumni shirt and bracelet. I use my 4-H notepad with pledge I actually live my life by for me. Read moreI recently chaperoned a field trip to 4H camp with my twin daughters Feb 24-26th 2025… Every thing was nice… My girls really enjoyed all the activities and the food was sooo good each meal…. Our TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE came on the final day of our trip when we were scheduled to go canoeing at 9:00am on our departure day… Myself and my two 9 year old daughters decided to go canoeing together and Thank God we wore our life jackets because shortly after we were released from the deck we were pattling great and as we were taught when suddenly our canoe flipped over and my self and my two daughters were in the freezing cold waters of Lay Lake….. We did panic initially then I calmed down and got my girls to relax but the amount of time we stayed in that freezing cold water before any of the 4H staff assisted us was 15-20 mins…. My girls were crying I was screaming for Help and it’s like we were being ignored…. I was sooo upset after we finally got out the water that they had us stuck out there for soo long…. I could feel my body temp dropping and was really worried about my 9 year old daughters literally crying for help and they were just wayyyyyyy to slow to respond…. Then afterwards none of the staff assisted us with towels… A dry place with heat to warm up… They did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! I am a nurse and had sense enough to help my girls into dry clothes and put them in my car with the heat on to help regulate their body temperatures…… We were suppose to have lunch at 1100am after that excursion but I was so disappointed in everyone at the facility that I just loaded my daughters up and we left early. I feel like I should be calling around for a attorney because that wasn’t right at all…TOTAL DISGRACE!!!!Do better 4H for situations such as this…. Aniyah was our group leader she finally came to the...
Read moreWe were there from Friday afternoon till Monday morning and my husband wanted to stay another night.. it was so peaceful and very clean.. we have lived about 10 miles from the 4H center for 36 years and never knew there was a hotel there.. it was fun sitting outside in the evening and listening to the children having what appeared to be big dance party with a DJ playing some really good music.. they were definitely having a blast.. 0ur room was very spacious with a beautiful view of the lake..I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the housekeeping lady that came banging on the door and opening it yelling housekeeping.. and it wasn't even checkout time which if she would have checked we rented the room for an additional night.. if you are looking for a quick.. close.. laid-back get away at a very reasonable rate.. this is the place.. we will definitely be coming back when it's warmer and enjoying some lazy time by the beautiful pool and maybe do a little fishing...
