It’s the furthest off the road on the stretch of campgrounds along 89 between Truckee and Tahoe City. Campsites #4 and 5 lead down to the river. The water was really high so not much area to hang out by the water, but there was a smaller stream leading in that my dog loved running in. The water in the river was moving too fast for him to swim. The benefits of the campground are it’s vicinity to other attractions. It’s just a couple miles from Squaw Valley and halfway between Tahoe City (and the lake) and Truckee. Host specific review: The camp host is a bit disorganized, we booked the site late, just three days before the trip, when we arrived there was a couple set up in our site, the host didn’t have updated paperwork and didn’t put the reserved tag on the site. It could have been bad, but the couple was understanding and moved without putting up a stink. The camp host didn’t handle it very well. We talked to him first to see if there were any other spots that were open, I felt bad making people move that already had the fire going and would have took a lessor site for the night, but he said there were no other sites. When he went over to talk to the people he acted very aggressive demanding to know why they chose that site arguing with them even though we had already established that the reserved sign was not at the site. Afterwards it turns out that the sight across from us wasn’t booked that night and the next day my girlfriend checked the campgrounds website and saw that they had two other sites that were not reserved for the weekend. Luckily the couple we kicked out was ok. The guy came back the next day to talk to me about the situation and see if I would complain to the park about the host. He said they found a group they knew up the road and everything worked...
Read moreI've never camped here but I've been in the campground very close to the highway seems pretty noisy but very pretty I would say if you were looking for camping close to Tahoe and cheaper than being on the lake would be a pretty good spot if you could deal with all the noise it does get pretty crowded during the holiday weekends but I'm sure you can reserve the spots I see campfires there so you will be able to have campfire you should probably bring your own wood because there's a highway and then a river and the campground is in between so there's probably not much wood picking going on out there you might be able to buy wood from the camp host I would imagine you can every time I camp in California you're able to buy from the camp host it's also very close to Truckee in case you run out of supplies it's only open after Memorial Day and I think it's only open till Labor Day like I said if you can deal with the traffic noise it should be a decent spot to stay close to the lake I'm sure there's probably good fishing there be careful the kids the river seems to be pretty fast right now but they do slow it down in peak season so you could probably get your feet wet maybe not...
Read moreDave the camp host is one of the most hospitable, generous people you’ll ever meet! Our car started overheating a little up the road from Silver Creek Campground, so we decided to stop there for the night. Luckily there was one spot available (it’s difficult to find anything in this area if not booked ahead). Dave has some experience working with cars, so he took a look at ours and had a lot of helpful advice. He also offered us blankets and food/water in case we weren’t prepared (we were, luckily, but it was still a nice gesture!) He also offered us a ride to Truckee in case we needed anything, and let us stay all day the next day waiting for AAA to come tow our car. As for the campsite itself, it is close to the highway, but so are a lot of the other ones in this area. The camp spots are not too squished together. Some of them are closer to the river and others closer to the highway. Since we got the last spot it wasn’t the greatest and had virtually no shade during the day. Dave offered for us to hang out at his spot in the shade and gave us cold water and crackers and cheese while we waited. The world needs more...
