Great campsite! Camp hosts maintain the area clean and monitor the grounds frequently. Bathrooms were clean, flush toilets, running water faucets, and a short walk away in 3 directions from our campsite (campsite #7). Across from a water spigot and 2 sites over from the garbage. Convenient. Lots of pebbles and rocks in softer terrain for staking tents. Pretty close to neighbors, a bit on the small side where their was enough ground for a tent but we managed to pitch the tent with the back end on the edge of a ditch. About the ditches. Exercise precaution while walking in the dark. The ground wasn't the most level but overall a decent campsite. Walking like 5 minutes across CA89 and into William Kent Beach was amazing and worth any minor inconvenience. Lake Tahoe is crystal clear, pebbled beach not sand but perfect for a family swim. The campground is across from a lakefront restaurant with deck dining and boat rentals. There's a cafe/ convenient store across the street, too. We were minutes from a gas station, major grocery store, and tons of shopping and dining options. At night, you could hear the boats and cars on the highway but, a minor inconvenience overall. Oh yeah but also.... Be bear aware as this is bear country all around the lake/ Sierra. Other places I've camped at warn you about bear activity but this place delivers. Nightly, in fact. First night, mama bear with her 2 cubs (3AM just passing through). Second night, male bear digging into campsite neighbor's cooler that was left out near their picnic table. (5AM). They packed up and left after that. Bummer experience they had. But if your campsite is clean, they'll just pass on through. We didn't see them in the daytime just night time between 3 to 5 AM, in our experience. One of our camp neighbors had 2 dogs in a cage and the baby bears kinda were curious about them. Dogs growled at the cubs, owner of dogs came out the tent. It was an experience hitting the panic button on the car alarm and sounding the air horn. The mama bear scurried but returned for her cubs that climbed a tree. Then she herself climbed a tree. Finally, all was calm and the bear family went on about their walk through. All while one of the other campsite neighbor's was in a hammock sleeping. Well, probably not with all of the ruckus. Not once did I hear anyone yell "hey bear", though.

"Planning my summer roadtrip, and everyone said it was impossible to get a campsite in Tahoe, CA during the summer. Rec.gov makes booking easy and 3 days before I left, I scanned sites near the lake and booked my campsite using their phone app for Android. The campground is directly across the street from the West Shore Market (great for snack gathering & outdoor people watching) and the bike path that circles the lake, perfect for an afternoon walk. Arriving on Sunday, I followed the weekend crowds and had a pretty mellow site with a large tent spot #42. By late afternoon, a friendly group of 12 year old boys and their families began the time -occupying tradition of dead tree chopping and I lost any hope of seeing a bear. The campground has over 80 sites and is very family friendly. RVs, campers, tents, and even a few hammocks - everyone can make this land by the lake their home. Thanks Ed - no bear sighting this time!"

What a delightful campground! We've traveled extensively throughout the West and this was the cleanest and friendliest US Forest Campgrounds we've stayed at. The hosts were so welcoming, kind, and helpful -- offering suggestions for nearby restaurants and tips for enjoying the area. The grounds were spotless -- it's clear that the hosts truly care about the space and maintaining it for all to enjoy. The fellow campers were quiet and respectful (with the exception of one neighbor who maximized the hours for running their generator). The location is perfect -- while some of the sites do back up to houses, it's home to many mature trees and spacious sites. The lake and bike path are just across the street along with a handful of restaurants and the West Shore Deli & Market which is a delightful stop on it's own. If you need more shopping or dining, it's a very short drive to Tahoe City..

Nice place, not for everyone.

This campground was a little too "people-y" for me, haha. I just hadn't been in a campground with that many people crammed in....and it felt like I was the only person in a tent..every single person around me was in a luxury RV/Van or car camping. Considering how much bear activity there was the weekend I was there (in the fall), I wished I was in something more secure lol.

My site made me feel like I was in someone's backyard, as there were literally cabins, like a whole neighborhood, lined up along behind my site. As a lone female camper, I wasn't enthused that the gentleman in the cabin right behind me kept coming up to the measly wooden fence between us to chit chat and offer me food..he also let his dogs run around my site.

About this fence....it was broken by, apparently, a bear from a few nights prior that was trying to climb over. There had been a bear walking around the entrance of the campground right before I had arrived, and my second night there I was awakened several times by other campers yelling "bear!" and ringing bells and honking their horns.

The bathrooms were very clean, easy to access. No lights.

The hosts were so friendly, and I saw them driving around camp almost hourly, or so it seemed.

Right across the street from the campground looked like some cafes/small stores, and it was an easy drive to the lake.

All in all, it was an ok stay, but not...

We camped here in a motorhome while running the nearby Rubicon Trail. We stayed mid week and the campground was very quiet until Thursday when a group took over three campsites and allowed their kids to run all over screaming all day. We stayed in campsite #75, very spacious and pretty private and could easily fit our motorhome and two vehicles. Friends stayed next to us in site #77, not as large but room for their motorhome and 2 jeeps. These sites are in the middle of the campground, so you didn't notice you were in the middle of the neighborhood. Bathrooms were clean with flush toilets and running water, a great improvement over vault toilets we find at many campgrounds we love. The camp hosts were friendly and obviously take pride in the campground itself, I saw them raking some of the sites. There are no showers here, but they do have numerous water spickets that one in our group used to fill their trailer holding tank, and they have a dump station. It was nice to have a few restaurants within walking distance. We did see a large coyote run through the middle of the campground while we were taking a walk during the day, so it's wise to be aware there are wild animals here. There was spotty cell service, depending on your carrier. This is more "city" than most of our camping, but we...
