Lovely old place but felt complacent. A group of us visited and depending on who answered the phone we either got a friendly welcome or a cross, stern person. Customer service shouldn't be hit or miss but consistent. We visited in very hot weather (over 100F) and none of us were told to hydrate, where to get drinking water for our large water bottles. We had to fill up at crude, outdoor water fountains. That is not acceptable in this day and age. Maybe in the 1850s, but not today. We had a great chat with the general manager who is wonderful and gave our suggestions for a water station at the pool house next to the ice machine as well as one in the lobby and by the baths. This would save on people using plastic, disposable bottles. We also suggested grab bars to help folks in and out of the baths. Historical or not, guests' safety ought to matter more. The rooms are immaculate and beds are comfy. That's a great feature to depend on but also to recommend the place with confidence. The dining hall is classic old school charm with a basic spread, but again, for a place that is supposed to improve one's health, offering plastic creamers is an insult, esp at over $200 per night. That has to change immediately to real cream, or give noon-dairy options. For heavens sake, this isn't the 1960s. The general manager was so nice and receptive he even took notes when we all suggested signs for people to keep quiet. There need to be more signs for overly excited young adults to keep their swimwear on in the hot tub as well. There was some decidedly inappropriate behavior. That is wretched and against public health code as well as decency. Staff need to make much more frequent walk-throughs to maintain standards. Despite all the room to grow and get better, I've told many people to visit this old shrine but really want to see the venue show more initiative in caring for guests' health and safety with easy access to drinking water, physical safety at the baths (I could never invite an elderly person and that seems so unfair just because the mindset is so stuck in the past), and healthier options in the buffet. Overall wonderful if you are able bodied and not handicapped or too elderly. Be sure to go to town for the AMAZING Silver Oak coffee and the yummy food at Cultivo. Ukiah has growing pains but it's getting better and...
Read moreA place that makes you feel at peace. I have been to Vichy twice and both times have been exceptional – I can’t wait to go back. The baths are truly an extraordinary experience offering utter relaxation and the thrill and enjoyment of being covered in bubbles. I also appreciate learning about the science behind the healing nature of the water, it made the experience so much more enjoyable. I’ve spent hours and returned multiple times in one day to relax in the baths and soak in the beautiful surrounding nature. The magic continues on throughout the property, as the green fields and lush vegetation cover the surroundings. Everything feels natural which allows oneself to connect deeply with nature, it is such a restorative atmosphere. Adding on to the magic, on the one side of the property is a hike to the falls. My family and I enjoyed an afternoon adventure listening to birds and seeing newts in the water leading up to the falls. This time with family is truly worthwhile and allows to slow down and tune into nature. The cottage we stayed in was comfortable and felt like a hug. We would sit outside to have our meals and warmed ourselves by the furnace at night while talking or playing cards. The rooms have exactly what you would need for a peaceful stay surrounded by nature. I was fortunate enough to meet the family that own and run the property. On my last visit, I had come to see if the baths could help with a medical condition that I had. They were extremely gracious and genuinely concerned. There is something to be said about the sense of welcome and kindness you receive from people, especially during these times. I am grateful to have visited such a place and look forward to my return. It is...
Read moreOVERPRICED but A REALLY NICE PLACE My wife and I stopped in to the resort with our two kids (4 & 11). The grounds are really beautiful. The large Hot Tub is open until 2:00 AM and heated to a perfect 104 degrees. It is set in a beautiful creekside nook. You must go over a wonderful vine covered footbridge. The champagne soaking tubs which are fed from a mineral spring are wonderful as well. Although they are only 90 degrees they are loaded with minerals and the Lithium makes you feel lovely. Mellow and positive. There is also a lower set of tubs and an outdoor but covered natural spring that is loaded with mud which we were able to exfoliate with and have a blast playing with. We had to coax the kids out after a long time.
The rooms are ok. but we expected much more for our $350/night rate. Warm, clean, and basic but nice. We stayed in the creekside rooms. There seemed to be nicer cabins available. My biggest complaint was the internet. HiSpeed Wifi is promised but definitely not delivered. This was frustrating as none of our devices was able to even check our Google Maps to continue plotting our journey.
The continental breakfast was mediocre at best. Some real basic fruits and cakes. Some hard boiled eggs, basic coffee (no natural sweetners) and that was it.
The saving grace for us and what would make us return to this Hot Spring Resort was the owner Gilbert. He was an interesting guy with lots of great information regarding the areas history and the history of the property.
We would definitely go back, but would negotiate hard for our rate. I would pay $179/night for this...
