Hanning Flat Dispersed Area — Hotel in Tehachapi

I tried out some dispersed camping here at Hanning Flat and I was driving towards the lake and my car got stuck in sand. It was a dumb mistake but I learned my lesson. Luckily, I was able to make phone calls and use internet on my phone from here. I called for help and got out. Just a warning for any off-road newbies out there. Pay attention and don't drive towards the lake unless you know for sure your vehicle can handle sand and make sure you have a shovel and a tire traction device with you in case you still get stuck. I come here to rabbit island almost every day. Fishing is good. I've caught lots of largemouth and catfish. However it's the middle of July and the algae bloom is insane. Close to the only place around the lake with trees. I love it here but it's super easy to get stuck in the deep loose sand. Come prepared. Best part is they don't charge and you can stay up to 3 weeks I believe. Not a busy spot...
