Vacation with friends, 6/7 - 6/12 2021, Sites 30 and 31 The staff was amazing, the location was beautiful. They're undergoing construction to improve the campground, and we booked knowing that in advance. The improvements that they've completed are great! Please keep going! The things they haven't gotten to yet.... well.. Let's talk bathrooms. I want to recommend this KOA to others, and we definitely want to return, BUT not until the bathroom situation is given some attention. We were there 6 nights, at least half of the mornings we had to wait 30 - 45 minutes for a toilet. You have 180 cabin/tent/RV sites, and of the 14 - 15 toilets available, several were constantly not working/wouldn't flush, or were part of a shower/toilet combo and guests were in those for 45 or more minutes at a time.. That doesn't make for a stress-free stay! I understand you probably assume that your RV guests will use the facilities in their campers, but not all of us have trailers with useable bathrooms. A wet-bath is only really useful for "1" thing (if ya get my drift). When I went to the reception desk to comment on this, the reply from staff was cheerful, but frustrating: "well, that must mean we have really good hot water!", or "People just really love our bathrooms!" doesn't do anything to make a guest feel better about the fact that they have to quickly drive into the town of Ouray and use the public facilities in the morning. For the price we paid per night, I believe working, reliable bathrooms aren't too large an expectation....I even told management I'd be perfectly happy with a vault toilet! ..cause at least it's reliable! On to Voltage. 102V or less in the hot afternoons. Our friends in site 31 couldn't run their AC most days after returning from activities, and kept tripping the breaker. There are other reviews on the Ouray KOA page with this exact issue.. An on-site electrician tried to make some adjustments at the plugin, but we were told that since our sites were close to the main building, we were "upstream"... and that all the big RV's "downstream" were eating up the power...and there was nothing that could be done. Please upgrade your power...again, for the price we paid per night, our friends shouldn't have had to lose out on A/C because your infrastructure can't handle the demand. Regarding the restaurant.. We get what you're trying to do, and we were excited about the potential. The reality, however, wasn't great. I'm just gonna chalk it up to "growing pains" and assume you haven't gotten the hang of it yet. We decided to have a nice dinner early in our stay, and that meal made sure we wouldn't try again.. You replaced my smoked chicken, but the server acted like it was perfectly normal for it to be refrigerator-cold... There were issues with things missing from various orders at our 6 person table..things which your menu clearly listed as "comes with" those meals, but your staff gave us a "well actually, it doesn't come with that" explanation.. We just wanted our cornbread ya know? :) Bottom line, we want to come back, but not until you make sure that the campground can function properly, even with full capacity.

Upon arrival, we discovered that our 34-foot travel trailer was too large for the assigned site—not due to a lack of space, but because of the drastic slope. Even with leveling blocks under the stabilizer jacks, our leveling system maxed out and nearly had to bring the rear of the camper to the ground in order to level it. The more significant issue, however, was the sewer hookup. The sewer connection was located approximately 25 feet behind our camper and uphill, requiring us to connect three sewer hoses just to reach it. Even with the camper’s front end raised substantially, the black tank outlet remained lower than the sewer pipe, resulting in poor drainage. We contacted management immediately to request a different site, as these issues were apparent upon arrival. The manager visited our site and told us it was rated to accommodate up to a 44-foot camper and that we simply needed to elevate our sewer hose to facilitate proper drainage. Despite our efforts, drainage remained inadequate. The only solution offered by the manager was to move us to an upgraded site—for an additional $270—despite the fact that we had already paid nearly $500 for a four-night stay. We were not asking for a free upgrade; we simply expected a functional site where we could utilize the services we paid for. Additional concerns included the location of our site, which was directly adjacent to the bathroom and shower house. Each time a toilet was flushed—which was frequently due to high traffic—the smell of sewage was overwhelming, making it unpleasant to sit outside by our campfire. The laundry facilities were also subpar. While there were six washers, only three dryers were in working order. I noticed this issue was mentioned in reviews several weeks ago, yet it still has not been addressed. Overall, this is not a campground we would return to. For the same money we preferred our previous stay Ouray Riverside Resort just down the road and closer to town.

I must say I couldn’t leave this place fast enough. We arrived and friendly staff at the front desk. Having a camper with no bathroom and a terrible experience with the restrooms/showers here. For one the combo lock on the door is annoying and just dumb. Obviously nobody is sneaking in to use the bathrooms here. Forgetting the code and having to walk back to the camper. The 16 trips or so I made to the restroom/shower EVERY SINGLE time 1 or 2 out of the 3 toilets was occupied with someone taking a dump, no matter what the time was. The ventilation system is absolutely trash and the smell is 10 times worse than going into a porta potty! Bathrooms were rather disgusting with poo splattered toilets and trash on floors. Awkward inward swing doors in the shower with no shelves but has 2 hooks. 2 showers in the women’s and 1 toilet out of service which is unacceptable for the price they charge to stay at this place. Zero sleep past 7am and I’m a heavy sleeper, lots of banging and loud noises. People driving excessively fast down the lane in and out of the park. And ignorant people letting their dogs bark!!!! Nobody says anything to them. Loud road traffic behind the place. I’d give the place a 4 star if they correct the bathroom ordeals and ventilation fan! Hang a sign up in each stall for the boomers that sit there 30 minutes with a log in the bowl, the entire locker room doesn’t want to smell your sh**. Learn what a courtesy flush is!!!!! And sadly I suggest installing speed bumps to slow people down and help quiet the place in the early hours

THE BAD: Booking system can be a huge hassle as not every KOA has the same ammentatnies. I booked online & reqested a tent site with electric & water my confermation email even says " tent site w/ electric & water" I was charged a deposit based on that & upon check out I would get my full recipt of chargres. Once I got to the site it was a disaster, a CORNER RV SPOT BY TRASH, barely enough space to fit a small RV even if I had one. The reservation system put me on an RV site charging $150 with out me knowing it untill after I had checked in, after I was guided to site. By the look dismay on my face the man asked if everything was ok when I explained what I booked for online he said "Im sorry miss but this KOA does not have tent sites w/ electric." he paused then he said to me to "wait here & he would figure something out to make this right for you" he started making calls & driving around to help me. About 15 mins goes by he came back he said "I think I found you something, its a primative site, follow me & we'll check it out." I followed him & was put in what they call an "overflow" site.

THE UGLY: You could smell like raw sewage, couple across the way in a numbered tent site around 930 or so had to move their tent by me because raw sewage comming up from the ground underneath their site. The next day it was covered in gravel & a new set of campers with a toddler was given the same site. That just not right! Gravel wont fix the issue if sewage truely is seeping up from the ground. There are only 2 bath houses onsite not enough if you ask me to accomidate the number of guests. I mean you couldnt go to the bathroom or shower without someone knocking or even yanking on the door. If I recall there used to be a large shaded play ground infront of the offices & space for other games like horse shoes or corn hole but all that is gone now. Instead its packed full of tents. So theres no place to kids to play. I had a grandfather ask if he & his grandson could play in the grassy area behind my tent. he says there was no where else for safe them to go that wasnt taken up with more RVS or Tents.

THE GOOD: When I arived I was greeted by staff as soon as I walked in the door. The woman at check in was very nice, she let me know that they would keep my card onfile incase I needed anything from their store ( ex: more fire wood, ice, stuff for smores etc) to just text a number & someone would deliver it to me. That same system would let campers know what was being served to breakfast & dinner at the cafe. Even told you about the live music they had on weekends which I thought was a cool feature. The man that guided me to my site was even more helpful & frankly a trooper. He went above & beyond to come by several times, checking in with me to make sure that things were ok at my new site, even helped facilitate a credit onto my account drove back to my site witht he recept so I didnt have to fo to the office. That way I could settle into my new site & relax. It wasnt technically a camp site with an assigned number persay but it I was greatful !!! It was an open grassy area with a table, a firepit, running water just a few feet away & a short walk to the bath house, Much better than being on gravel next to the trash.Thats defnetly something I appriciated!

I go camping sevral times a year & always stay in KOA when in colorado but this last stay left me with mixed feelings twards this specific KOA not sure If Ill be back atleast not untll they get some...

Great check-in staff. We were given a buddy site when we checked in which was much too narrow and in the full sun. Told the ladies we could not open our rooms nor our awning and asked for another site. Since we were staying a week they had no problem putting us in a much better site with shady pine trees. All the staff but one were friendly and helpful. One older man stopped and gave me a ride to the laundry when he saw me carrying my laundry bag! Very nice! Just one staff member was rude and obnoxious. Some older guy who worked there and thought he owned the place yelled at us (he had Montana plates). We tried to walk out of our trailer with our two dogs and some woman had a dog with a leash on but no one was holding it. The dog was running around loose and some other folks were trying to walk their dogs as well and the dogs all started barking at each other. The woman finally took hold of her loose dog and we continued walking down the row when this guy screamed at us out his window of his fifth wheel as we walked by. Didn't let him ruin our vacation but he needs to retire and go home. This park is in a beautiful setting with mature trees on many sites and a creek running through it. Sadly, it is good to stay Sunday and Monday but too full later in the week and weekends are a nightmare. Chaotic, noisy, and impossible to get any peace and quiet. Motorcycles, off road vehicles, kids on bikes, people with loose dogs or dogs tied up outside their rigs with no one watching them were a pain. Tried the restaurant on a Saturday night and the food was not good. My husband was served a raw hamburger and had to send it back. Couldn't figure out why so few people were there but understood after trying the food. Had a buffalo chicken sandwich which was so hot and spicy it was inedible and after waiting another 40 minutes we asked for a refund on the hamburger and left hungry. Tried the ladies shower one afternoon. Tiny showers that were dark inside when the shower curtain was closed. Hair band, hair, used band-aid, and dirt were on the floor of the dressing area. Did have decent water pressure. Dog park was clean with fresh cedar chips but located a long walk away at the back section of the park. Had a couple people ask us if we knew where it was as they hadn't been able to find it. Never saw anyone using it except employees. Most sites are roomy enough but not being cleaned very well. We picked up all kinds of plastic bits and pieces, bottle caps, tissues, etc in our site and noticed other areas of the park e.g. in front of cabins had small bits of trash as well. This campground needs much more attention paid to cleaning and maintenance. There are jeep rentals on the site and a small store with supplies. Kids have a playground and bouncing blowup toy. We loved the location of this park and the mature landscape but will look for a cleaner, smaller, quieter...
