phenomenal, sparkling clean rooms with gorgeous interior! I travel tons and I have to say hands down this is the best value I have seen in a 6 week roadtrip across 6 states. I was only supposed to stay for 2 nights... which became 5. first - it is more boutique hotel than hostel. and the private rooms are HUGE, most face or have verandas onto the very large garden. the entire place is less than 2 yrs old. the mattresses are amazing and the place is SPARKLING clean (way cleaner than hotels I have stayed in in other places) everything smells new and clean and they take a lot of pride in classic gorgeous relaxing interiors. the shared kitchen has a large fridge, and as there is not a stove (rather a pull out cooker if needed) there is not that kitchen/hostel feel. again - much more (dare i say luxury/new) boutique hotel feel than hostel and large spaces to meet people. the STAFF are AMAZING. and so kind and helpful. Gavin let me in after they had closed at 10 30 pm at night (my 5th night I returned bc I hiked 14 miles nearby and had no energy for a drive) - the dorms are sparkling clean and not packed in like sardines and all of the rooms have lots of light. the place, the interiors, the staff, the sparkling cleanliness. this place is an OASIS. do not hesitate. it is also just phenonomenal value when you consider only 15 min drive to telluride. telluride itself has priced out many travelers as the town starts hotels (not half as nice at the bivvi) at 400/night. also note the private rooms have their own gorgeous clean bathrooms at the bivvi and for dorms they have their own bathroom within the room. its a really special place and grateful i found it at the end of this 6 wk roadtrip. i rarely stay anywhere on my trips more than 2 nts. i stayed here 5 nights....
Read moreWhat I really liked: the bunk rooms are very spacious and everyone had a lot of space to put their gear there was more availability to cook than anticipated; the kitchen had hot plates and basic pots/pans utensils to make simple dishes the breakfast was basic but good the hot tubs were lovely after a long day of skiing the common area is well decorated and they did a great job with the furnishings/overall aesthetic of the hostel
Room for improvement: the WiFi is unusable for even the most basic functions, like opening a web page. For a remote location where most people don't have cell service they can rely on, the wifi should really be functional a shuttle system (one used to exist?) Should really be implemented. At the very least a weekend shuttle would be useful when the bus only passes by 1x in each direction. The buses are very infrequent and in the current situation you really need a car cleaning in bunk rooms could be more thorough. there were multiple items of trash under the bunks that obviously hadn't been cleaned out in awhile the gear room isn't heated which means you can't leave your boots with your skis/boards overnight. Making the room heated or creating a separate space indoors for drying boots rather than taking them into the rooms would help with smelly rooms the refrigerator in the kitchen area could be larger, it was packed full with the hostel only at a low capacity more furniture/tables at the hot tub to put your towel/phone/drinks rather than setting them on the ground
*Additional note: make sure to arrive with food if you are shuttling from the airport. There isn't any food within walking distance and with the infrequent shuttle schedule, many people were stranded at the hostel without food if they...
Read moreOverall, a good and quiet stay. The location is about a 30-minute drive to Telluride and close to nearby amenities like restaurants and grocery stores (which we were aware of prior to booking). The room was spacious, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was adequate, though there’s room for improvement, particularly with the coffee supply and the availability of utensils, especially spoons.
The main issue was with room service. The trash bin was never emptied, and towels weren’t replaced, even after we specifically requested them from the host on duty. This continued throughout our entire 3-night stay. There was a sign in the room stating that if you want new towels, leave dirties on the floor. But every evening we returned, the pile was still there, untouched. It seemed to be a management issue, as we also noticed large piles of dirty laundry and staff struggling to locate basic supplies like facial tissues and clean towels.
The towels also need updating, and more attention should be given to overall cleanliness, particularly the carpets and bathroom.
On the last day of our stay, the host on duty, Sierra, helped rectify our situation with the room service, which we really appreciated. I hope the hostel implements clearer policies and better oversight regarding housekeeping and...
