“Secret Forest Gem on Tripoli Road, 10/10 Would Return!”
Tripoli Road is the kind of camping spot that stays with you long after the car pulls away. We stumbled upon this little forest oasis, a riverside camp tucked amid mossy boulders and towering pines. It quickly became one of our all-time favorites.
The Setting: A babbling stream ran beside our site, complete with a tiny pebble beach and a chest-deep pool perfect for morning dips. The breeze carried through the leafy canopy, keeping the sticky humidity manageable.
The Setup: The shade trees partnered perfectly with our canopy to shield gear from a surprise Friday afternoon downpour, zero soggy tents. It felt like nature was on our side.
Camp Life Vibes: We spent the weekend foraging for firewood, cooking smoky breakfasts, and lounging by the fire as the stars came out. Even better? Unlike other spots, we had some cell service, great for checking the weekend weather but still enough remoteness to truly unplug.
Wilderness with Comfort: The hoverflies buzzed like tiny forest drones, Rickey got a few horsefly bites to remind us who's really in charge, and we even positioned chairs and hammocks like we owned the place. Cozy, quiet, and unforgettable.
Whether you're into hammocking, fire cooking, or just finding peace where the trees are your only neighbors, this quiet stretch of Tripoli Road delivers. Bring bug spray (and maybe thicker air mattresses), but most importantly, bring your best self. You’ll leave recharged and already planning...

Unfortunately, they’res always a group that can ruin it for the rest… When did it become kosher to have a ton of people you don’t know hanging out in your campsite? Apparently there are no boundary lines any longer? And… then to have 60+ people in 3 campsites surrounding you that decide to set up a DJ booth and play music until 3:00am (that’s when we finally fell asleep). The music is so loud, even with the drowning out of the rivet, my 4 and 6 year old could not sleep!!
And apparently the ranger came done a few times, but did nothing!
I’m so sad to never want to go back to...
Read moreNo reservations required which is great when a lot of this campgrounds are booked months in advance. Just make sure you get there early if you're going for the weekend
The sites are big and spread out and there's no quiet hours so it's a great place if you're looking to party. No so great for a family as there's no bathhouse and just some porta potties along the road.
Staff at the gate was friendly and the prices were fair. $22 per car for the whole weekend. Russel pond is just a short drive and Lincoln is just a bit down the highway. Overall a great site for a...
