Rented one of the one bedroom cabins (Hide and Seek) and EVERYTHING about it exceeded every expectation I had. The cabin was gorgeous and looked exactly like the pictures on the website. Every detail was carefully thought out and exquisitely executed. Was advertised as a perfect romantic getaway and definitely didn't disappoint. The garden tub was fantastic and the bathroom was equipped with a dimmer light (perfect for a romantic atmosphere). The bed was so comfortable, I didn't want to get out of it and 5 fluffy pillows were provided (no flat hotel pillows here). The living area sported a beautiful stone fireplace, genuine leather couch and a tv on a swivel mount so it could be seen from couch or bed. The kitchen was darling. Included a full size refrigerator, 4 burner stove with oven, microwave, coffee pot (with coffee for those of us who can't survive in the mornings without it) and a full set of dishes and cook wear. The porch view was nothing but beautiful trees. The gliding chairs made it the perfect spot for a quiet cup of coffee. Even though there are numerous RVs and cabins around, trees are strategically left to buffer sound and ensure privacy. The outside of the cabin had a fire pit and swing, with dry firewood readily available. The cabin was spotless. Every area was scrubbed, polished and tidy. The pool was a nice size and well kept. Activities are available some night (outdoor movies, corn hole tournaments, etc). There's a game room on site, although I didn't get a chance to check it out. In the evenings an ice cream truck makes a round (offering traditional ice cream bars as well as South Mountain Creamery ice cream). The location was great, with easy accessibility to both the Catoctin Zoo and Cunningham Falls State Park. The down town part of Thurmont is less than 15 minutes away and offers grocery stores, chain restaurants and local eateries as well. It's the ideal vacation spot for couples who want to relax while still having the option to eat out and do activities. At the end of my stay I didn't want to leave and can't wait to book another visit! I would suggest however that you do not enter the road entrance directly on 15 (Depending on the direction you're coming from Google Maps will try and take you that way). Coming into Thurmont, getting on 77 and entering the road through the William Houck area of Cunningham Falls State park puts you on the part of the road that is less narrow and easier to navigate. Overall it was the best weekend getaway experience...
Read moreWe are never disappointed with our visit to Ole Mink Farm. It is an annual tradition for us. We started in the smaller camping cabins, and those were quite nice for our younger family. It was not a problem using the bathhouse and otherwise having everything we need at our cabin site. We now enjoy the 2 bedroom pet friendly cabins, alternating between the Sunny Maple and the Quiet Oak. The cabins are all unique and each offers something we absolutely love - really can't decide a favorite. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms and kitchens are well equipped, and the living space is quite nice for a family to relax. We go in winter, so enjoy the quiet of the campground. We love the trails in their woods, make use of the game room every year with old favorites such as Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, a clow machine, as well as a pool table, air hockey, and other family games and books available to borrow. There is a playground for kids to enjoy and a fenced area for dogs to run. Very close to area attractions if you want to see the area, but also could easily just shut out the world and stay in the cabin the whole time you are there. Firewood is provided, there is also an outdoor fire ring at each cabin. The camp store has some basics and ice cream for the post-dinner needs (!) but the local grocery store is also not too far away at the bottom of the mountain. We brought humidifiers this year as the fireplace does dry out the winter air in the cabin some. Don't forget your towels and bedsheets, but otherwise, the kitchen is fully furnished and they do provide soap in the bathroom as well as a hand towel and bath rug. The kitchen is also equipped with dishsoap, a sponge, a scrubber, and drying towels. We even found a tether outside for our dog - who absolutely loves the cold and outdoors - she was so happy sniffing around the cabin for a bit! We have stayed in the summer and enjoyed the pool then, but prefer the quiet winter visits. The Irons family is so friendly, helpful, and quick to respond to any need. They work tirelessly to make sure their visitors enjoy everything about their experience there. The cookies (and biscuit for the dog) and personalized sign greeting us are amazing little touches that make us feel incredibly...
Read moreWe don’t typically cabin camp, but we really wanted to get out of the city for a few days, and knew it would be too hot for car or tent camping. So we found Ole Mink Farm online, and booked a stay in the Robin’s Nest cabin for 3 nights in late July. We were so grateful for that a/c, especially after a few hours hiking the nearby parks! Plus, it rained buckets on two out of three afternoons, so it was nice to have a roof over our heads. Didn’t think we’d watch the cable tv, but we did, and it was admittedly a bonus since we were stuck indoors. Ditto for the free WiFi.
When we checked in we got fresh baked cookies! Staff was so helpful!
The kitchenette had a sink with a two-burner stove, a microwave, mini fridge, and a coffee maker with some Folgers, sugars, creamer, etc. There was a set of four coffee mugs, dinner and side plates, bowls, and drinking cups. There was some silverware but not a full set, plus some misc cooking utensils and a saucepan. Dish soap and a scouring pad, but no sponge. Salt and pepper shakers. Fire extinguisher by the front door. Round table with 4 stacking chairs.
The check in building is the main office and has a little shop with necessities, some camping supplies, South Mountain Creamery products, souvenirs, maps and brochures. Bathhouse was very close, clean, and spacious. We didn’t use the pool but it looked well maintained. There was a little fenced area to let dogs off leash, and the place overall is very pet-friendly (always a plus!) and a playground. There are a few trails to walk as well, accessed via a few areas around the resort. There’s a game room but we didn’t use it.
Great location, clean bathrooms/bathhouse, large pool, well maintained grounds and cabins, friendly staff, very wooded and beautiful property, close to Cunningham Falls State Park, Catoctin Mountain Park, and Thurmont (food,...
