21 day stay from nov.14- dec.5 2016 heard Bigfoot whooping in the middle of the night or early morning. Anyways it was always dark as it can be. Silent except for rain on tarps and my 10x15 cabin type tent. Set up in campsite#2 and didn't leave until it snowed. It would come once a week. I didn't know the time or date because my phone battery died on day 5. Literally the first night it visited. It woke me with a long whoop escalating from very low baritone like to so high like Prince at the end of every one. Three in a row. Monkey like, I don't know how else to describe. Every visit and that was it. Never heard it leave or move. It always was whooping from the same spot, 30 - 40 paces away and in the trees 15 - 20 ft up. It was definitely directing the whoops towards my tent. I wish I could get a recording. Game cam batteries where dead too.
The DNR sprays ROUNDUP out there in the campground and on the Hoh river's sandbars a couple times a year. No wonder there are only crackhead squirrels that throw spruce cones at you from the canopy. No other animals. Well I guess a deer was shot a half mile away from the campground by some poachers. Crows and jays But thats it.
And the Military performs EMP WARGAMES out there in the Hoh rainforest so be aware these things when out in the Olympic peninsula and never venture into the woods with markings that it is an...
Read moreWe reserved site #4 because according to rec.gov this spot had riverfront access…it does not. There was no public river access that we were able to find either, the only access were through other peoples sites. Also, we were very close to the road, and the road (highway 410) is LOUD, quite disappointing when driving 2 1/2 hours from Tacoma hoping for quiet. This site is also very out in the open, no privacy whatsoever, our poor dog was having so much anxiety from all the people, cars, and other dogs constantly walking by. The camp hosts were very kind and allowed us to switch sites for our second night that did have river access and much more privacy, that was site 16 and it was lovely. Otherwise we would have went home if we had to stay another night, site #4 really was that bad. Literally try to get any other site. Other wise, it’s a nice little campground, very kept. Only giving 2 stars solely due to the fact that the site info was not...
Read moreI loved the site that we were in… but there’s some pros and cons. Pros- the river is right behind your site(not spots 1-3), garbage services were provided, and vault toilets were clean for what they are. Hosts have don’t. Great job with keeping the sites super clean. And plenty of shade for those hot summer days. Now for my cons(cons for my family that is) - it says that no trailor over like 20-22 ft can really get in…. Unless your in spots 1-3( little to no privacy pretty much in the sun the whole time and no water access) … we were camped in spot 9 and out 16 ft camper was reeeeeeeally tight getting it in but also had a second parking spot for another rig. If the boulders were pushed back a few feet that would open it up a lot, and the site is set up backwards for camper camping(table and fire pit is on the other side of camper.
All in all I would go back if I was able to get this spot back. Was definitely a birthday camping...
