Lost Lake campground is a very rustic area about 3200 ft elevation. The lake itself covers about 6 acres. There are no restroom facilities and no water. The area is breathtaking with pines surrounding the lake and mountains in the distance. I arrived early and the sun was causing a mist to drift across the lake. The road up is rough with potholes only a couple big enough to swallow up your car lol just kidding about size there are plenty but is possible to drive around or straddle most of them. On the way up I needed to stop twice 1st for a doe standing in the middle of the road 2nd time for a herd of elk crossing the road saw 3 bulls and about 12 females. Continued to see deer near the road untilI lost count. After I was settled in fishing a bald eagle made its presence know by swooping out of a tall pine nearby. I would recomend worms as bait if you come to fish. There are some BIG trout in the lake. I hooked a couple in the 18 to 20 inch long size probably a ciuple...

Rangers posted a sign up saying they'd shut down this area to the public if they keep dumping.... changed to 3 star but I'll update in a few months after this season when I see how people have treated it.
It was very clean but doesn't have any real facilities (no water other than a lake and no restrooms). I always leave the place cleaner than I left and it seems others go the extra mile to keep it nice. The trail up has a lot of pot holes so take your time driving. Overall an amazing experience and we can't wait...
Read moreIt gets a five star if you like rough camping in it's truest sense. There are no facilities of any kind but many within 20-30 min drive. There are about 6-10 campsites accessible from the fire road with an average vehicle and another 5-6 only accessible by 4 wheel drive, if you are a confident four-wheeler with good ground clearance, my Montereo bottomed out a couple times getting to our site but nothing it couldn't handle. Great place to go but keep the little ones close as a lot of campers go there to do a lot of shooting. We had great luck hunting mushrooms on the east side of the lake....
